imagine if 36 year old craig ervine said he was 30. I reckon he could get away with it on looks and agility, but management would be budgeting for two world cups, maybe 3, from him and not 1.

ICC has to draw the line regarding this predominantly Asian scourge of age cheating. Sparing rich, powerbroker nations feelings doesn’t help anyone. The sport is perpetually engaged in a struggle for legitimacy with so much matchfixing, dubious results etc adding such blatant age cheating to the mix further ruins the game for everyone. What is strange is that it’s the nations with the least incentive to cheat that do so!! Afghanistan is a darling of the ICC and has been treated with kid gloves thus far. All through the past decade plus, Zimbabwe has been under threat to have its test/full membership status revoked whenever they suffered the misfortune of being bowled out for a score Uber 100. Now we are having our high school cricketers getting crushed by clearly 30 year old “progidies”, so-called “wonderkids” and the bloody ICC is turning a blind eye.
When there were rumours of possible political interference in ZC, the ICC banned Zim from the T20 WC within a week of the allegations being made public. Yet these Afghani geriatrics are allowed to cosplay as U19 cricketers in what is supposed to be a prestigious U19 World Cup?? Given these allegations, Rashid should be subjected to appropriate testing, this is the bloody 21st century, there is a lot of appropriate, non-invasive scans that can be done. If predictably, he is found to have lied about his age, Afghanistan must be handed a significant ban from youth tournaments. Is that unfair? Is that racist? Is attempting to salvage an ounce of credibility racist? Is justice racist? Is the pursuit of fairness racist?

I had a full beard 6 months before my 19th birthday. Bunch of my friends had it by 16. Its quite common amongst south asians.

Yeah Bangladesh used to do it, they made efforts to stop several years back. I'm sure the odd player might do still do it. But I think for ICC events there is a medical Test involved but not sure if you can legally force someone to undergo a test merely for record keeping sake.
For example Mushfiqur Rahim [originally] made his Test debut at age 16 in 2005, meaning he should be 33 now. However, his cricinfo profile corrected his age about 10 years ago. His age is now reported as 35, meaning he was 18 on Test debut and not 16, as was reported for many years.
Mushy probably still has 5 years left in the tank I would imagine. He will probably retire from T20s after this years WC and focus on Tests and ODIs until the 2027 WC. That would be my guess.

Mostly yes mate, esp in smaller cities and Rural areas this is massively prevalent. In bigger cities we get checked for valid documents from hospital and all that but in smaller cities and villages it is easy to get this manipulated as they like.
Most cricketers come from small towns.

Mohammad Nabi who is playing in the AFG ODI side is listed on cricinfo as 37 years old. Thats old as f**k...now if he's cheating as much as ZCF guesses the average Afghan player does...it would mean his real age would be somewhere around 40-42. IMO, that is way too old to be playing top flight cricket (really old players can play for the rank minnows in Division 3 or amateur cricket).
