Opening post

Zimbabwe heads into 50-over mode for the next couple of months, with The Pro50 starting in the morning.

The first double round (11th & 13th November) sees;

Tuskers Vs Eagles @ Bulawayo Athletic Club

Rhinos Vs Southern Rocks @ Kwekwe Sports Club

These are the first franchise games in any format to take place outside of Harare for a couple of years.

Full fixtures/venues here;

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/pro ... e-fixtures

Double round-robin with a grand final on January 7th.

Defending champions are the mighty Rhinos, who won their first ever silverware in this competition last season.

You have to look at the opposition he bowled to though. I think he averaged 100+ against the Test nations and took almost all of his wickets against teams like PNG, Scotland, Canada, etc.

These are still pretty decent teams though. What I`m trying to say is he isnt a guy who lacks any venom

Wes completely lacks venom. He is a carbon copy of every other part time offie.

Fair enough, still looks much more dependable than Burl though

That discipline always is.

It’s always stable, restrictive but low wicket impact.

It kind of transcends levels of cricket. Bowlers like him will bowl internationally but also you’d see the same bowler for third grade Rooty hill CC.

Specialist off spin bowling only really differentiates itself when you’re a Swann, Lyon, Saqlain type that can get serious revs, speed variations and trick shots like the doosra (not as much nowadays though) whisky maintaining the accuracy and reliability.

They also tend to be decent batsmen via tail ender standards.

Even Nathan Lyon started as a top order batsman who only bowled a bit then evolved.

That’s my observations anyway.

Scores are up. Mountaineers win.

After a slow start to the season, the Manicas seem to have found some form in the one dayers.

Chatara might be a shadow of his former self, but he seems to be still a handful for a lot of the domestic batters in limited overs--judging only by the wickets column of course. Ervine c Kasuza b Chatara for a duck sounds like a classic nick to first slip, going across the left-hander.

PJ in the runs and keeping is a positive.

check cricinfo results. Should be the tenth match I think
ZCF Hall of Famer
No live scorecards again today but Rocks seem to be live tweeting every over which is good
ZCF Hall of Famer
I hear there were several hundred fans at the ground in Masvingo today. Rocks bothering with social media and fan engagement is paying dividends.

Now if only the other 4 franchises cared as much...!
wat happened match between mountaineers and tuskers. Is it happened
ZCF Hall of Famer
No scores online yet but I think Tuskers won? Or at least they were in a strong position relatively near the end

Williams got 50 and Kasuza top scored in the match

Williams top of the batting and bowling charts now.

Showing he is still the most naturally gifted player in the country. Class.

If he can sort his head out and bite his lip, hopefully he will keep going beyond the end of his contract as planned. He still has so much more he can achieve in Zim colours.

Back on the red list, there goes hope of getting some decent overseas players post xmas.

Yeah, bad news all round. Apparently Derbyshire were considering a pre-season tour here as well. Shame.

I wonder if Curran and Compton will be scrambling back in the next couple of days, or if they'll stick it out?

Have tomorrows matches been called off?

Still nothing from the SRC or the Gov so they really shouldn't be in theory.

Although I wouldn't be surprised, considering how quickly things are moving....
ZCF Hall of Famer
Scratch that. Have just heard tomorrow's round of fixtures is indeed now postponed.? Sounds like it anyway
ZCF Hall of Famer
Also, the fixtures for tomorrow are also now missing from Cricinfo which seems to confirm something has happened.

Not sure whats going on - might be any number of reasons.

Rocks have not departed for Mutare as scheduled this afternoon though.

All this happening for a varient of Covid which is probably not even there in Zimbabwe!? I mean seriously 😂😂

Could be any other reason still. All we know is that tomorrows fixtures have mysteriously disappeared from cricinfo and also that Rocks were still in Masvingo/Harare as of quite late this afternoon/evening when usually they would have travelled to Mutare around lunchtime.
