Opening post

The domestic club season kicks off this weekend with the return of the Bulawayo Met 1st League. Queens, BAC, Amakhosi and Poly return.

Amakhosi Vs Queens @ Emakhandeni Ground

Byo Poly Vs BAC @ MacDonald Ground

I’d expect most Tuskers players to be playing as it’s pre-season.

Meanwhile if anyone has any updates about anything happening elsewhere in the country at club level this season, especially the Vigne Cup, please let us know here. So many people involved on the ground lurk and read this forum - please post guys :D info appreciated!

Schonken has something. He needs to be persevered with and looked after. Especially in the absence of Graeme Cremer and the regression of Mavuta

The kid can clearly play. That shot he played against Hasan Ali over mid wicket for 6 proved it. He just needs time, simple

I don’t know why ZC can’t just send talented niggas like this to a top country’s facility for a few months to pick up in some alternative and additional coaching. It’s surely not that expensive.

I suppose the fear is that they might not come back 😂

Hopefully Klusener arrives soon and can make an impact with these young guys like Marumani, Madande, Wes, Shumba and Welch. We've got some great raw talent atm but it really needs polishing.

Have the bennet brothers dissapeared for a while?

Saw enough of steven saul in the west indies under 19 game to say he has the basics and a great pull shot. Surely he should be playing some club cricket. Whats the deal with him going forward?
ZCF Hall of Famer
Think the Bennett's are still finishing school. And going to SA next apparently, to study/play. Saul/Wolhuter/Mitchell, no idea.

So nice to see club cricket in Zimbabwe again. It looks like the hooligans running the show are placing a lot of emphasis on club cricket.

There's certainly lot of positivity around at the moment. I guess we'll soon see if it's misplaced or not. Hopefully it continues.

"One of the billionaires is Mr Mulk who is coming to launch T10 cricket."

😂

He is actually going to be in Zim this week 😂

I suspect they trying to convince him to build the vic falls stadium. They saying the T10 tournament might be held in Zim this year actually. Interesting
Legend
The Vic Falls stadium I'm not too sure about. It's a bad idea I think but if somebody else pays for it then what do we lose? Maybe they think the big teams would love a holiday/tour. I don't know what the exact angle is but I suspect they want it done before the 2027 world cup. That is probably their target. Sports tourism. You could convince a few big teams to set up base there

What they probably haven't thought about is that the conditions there might be so different compared to what our guys used to. Both teams would be playing in foreign conditions 😂
ZCF Hall of Famer
Well a Vic falls Stadium is the single most stupid idea conceivable.

It’s closely followed by a dodgy Indian T10 betting league, which is surely the second worst possible conceivable idea.
ZCF Hall of Famer
The very idea of a stadium there makes me go for calming walks and settle down with a foot long Bob Marley.

It far surpasses the idea of the Chitungwiza Aquatics centre in stupidity and monumental waste of resources.

Unfortunately it's all about who gets the kick-backs.

A summer game in Vic Falls and they'll be casevacing 22 players to a blast freezer, aside from anything else.

We need to urgently upgrade our existing facilities and build indoor centres.
ZCF Hall of Famer
The T10 tournament sounds like it is happening anyway. ED is supporting it personally. God help us.

The Indian fella wants to build a 'world class cricket stadium in either Harare or Victoria Falls' according to the media. Let's hope sense prevails and it's Harare. But even then, with that sort of money you could instead just make sports club world class, revitalise a dozen club and school grounds and probably build an indoor centre or two as well.

It's a vanity project. Shame.

Looks like Vigne 2nd league is continuing, usual fixtures tomorrow. 1st League possibly on hiatus until the NPL is over?
ZCF Hall of Famer
Bulawayo's season has now finished.

Amakhosi won the 1st League quite comfortably. Poly were relegated. Nketa Cheetahs were promoted after winning the 2nd League, and NUST finished bottom of all without winning a single game - quite a fall from grace after being in 1st League a year or two back.

Nice to see a full season with 12 teams across two leagues completed.

Milton Shumba has played a couple of games in the Mash Central T20 comp btw. Good on him for getting out there and playing at every opportunity. Last week I think he played in Harare and Bindura on the same weekend.

Mutare T20 coming up:
