Opening post

In a path breaking decision regarding Cricketing in Vidarbha, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Zimbabwe Cricket have entered into a partnership whereby the two will embark on an exchange program concerning each other’s teams, coaches, analysts and undertake activities of mutual interest. Earlier the Head of Cricket Operations of Zimbabwe Mr.Givemore Makoni had visited VCA and had a fruitful discussion with the President Mr.Anand Jaiswal whereat this partnership was discussed and finalized.

Mr.Givemore was very much impressed with the infrastructure available at VCA and said that such facilities will definitely help his cricketers in honing their skills, especially playing spin bowling. As a prelude to this partnership, the Zimbabwe Under-19 Team will be visiting Nagpur to play Ten one day matches with VCA Under-19 and Under-23 Teams from 31 August’17 to 20 September’17. This visit of the Under-19 team is a preparation for the forthcoming Under-19 World Cup. Thereafter it is proposed that the Zimbabwe Emerging Academy Team will visit Nagpur followed by their Women’s Team and somewhere next year their Senior Team. VCA Teams will also visit Zimbabwe thereafter in 2018.

BCCI has also approved of this partnership and have appreciated this initiative of VCA This is a wonderful opportunity for VCA to grow its cricket profile and present a good competition to its cricketers said the President Mr.Anand Jaiswal.

Some of them might be back in school .dont know if they can attend such a long tour just after another one. Im sure a few of them are doing their A levels in October/November. Unless you are 100% sure you have a future in cricket it might not be worth attending

1st Odi, ZIM U19 V/s VCA U23

VCA U-23 team got better off Zimbabwe U-19 in the 1st One Day match played between Zimbabwe U-19 and VCA U-23 teams. The VCA U-23 team won by 68 runs on VJD method as the rains shortened the game.

In a low scoring match VCA U-23 opting to bat first were 179/9 in 50 overs.

After being reduced to 55/5 some resolute batting from Gagan Chawla (49) and Varun Palandurkar (40) Vidarbha recovered to 179.

For Zimbabwe Nkosilathi Nungu and Milton Shumba took 2 wickets each.

Zimbabwe's innings started on a positive note with their opener putting 56 runs.

Thereafter they collapsed to be all out for 103 with Sachin Kataria sharing 9 wickets for 17 runs.

The next match will be played at Jamtha on 5th Sept'17.

So, putting things in perspective:

Here's Sachin Katariya's profile from Cricinfo. He has played 5 FC matches already for Vidarbha: http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/conte ... 20383.html

He is a batsman, who bowls very occasionally (presumably lollypop offspin). He could not make the not so strong Vidarbha team for the whole of the last season. And he gets 9 wickets of Zim U19 after being introduced as the 6th bowler!

Horror story for Zim U19!

wow. They really have been thrown into the deep end. good conditioning though. I wonder if there are any Indian u19 players in this team. shows the difference in class and facilities. This is good for the kids, builds character. I wonder how the rising stars will cope there. That will be a good measure

Well, not really aware of that, but my guess is - most likely there would be none. The state of Maharashtra has 3 representative teams in the Indian domestic scene (most for any state I guess) - Mumbai, Maharashtra and Vidarbha. The first two are really good, but Vidarbha, covering the northern Maharashtra region, is not that great in terms of talent. In fact, in the past, people who got rejected from their respective stronger state teams have looked to play for Vidarbha (Badrinath of Tamil Nadu, Ganesh Sathish, Amit Verma of Karnataka and some more). So, their main team itself is not very talented. So, I doubt if there is too much quality in their age group sides.

The facilities are new and great, so they might be using this to evoke a lot of interest in the game in the northern Maharashtra region.

I think the Zim U19 team would have found acclimatising very difficult to these conditions may be. Weather-wise too, this is a great time to visit. So, can't really tell what is going on with the guys there.

Can anyone post the overall batting and bowlling stats for the u19s o. This tour so far?

So in the u19 CWC just 4 months away, ZIM u19s play PNG(whom they've lost to 3 times), AUS and crucially IND, whom they are touring right now? Why pick players like Murray who didn't tour then? Because batting conditions in NZ will be much different and easier?

Also, an update. As the Zim U19 team was supposed to fly back home from Mumbai airport, heavy rains lashing the city for that last couple of days have meant that flights are cancelled from the city. So, Zim U19 flight was diverted to Nagpur airport, but they could not get things rescheduled in time.

Lot of time waiting in the airport for the boys. Looks like last minute arrangements were made for them to get a hotel near by after flight situations did not improve. Not sure if they have flown yet. This report is from this morning:
