Scattered throughout this forum, there are many opinions on the coaching situation.
Hopefully this centralises our thoughts for a bit.
Today i have no time for an essay, but the shortened version is I want a coach that can influence, foster and emphasise a winning mentality. We tend to buckle at times we should have the foot on the throat. If we won the ones we just missed, we would have had an adequate record under Rajput. But we didnt, and mistakes were oft repeated.
I also think we should have two foreign coaches and one local. Someone who's been gone since forever like Andy or Strang is 'foreign' for this definition.
Without naming names, I'd like to see this mould:
Head coach:
Foreign, proven record of lifting a dud side psychologically
Bowling coach:
Someone who was technically brilliant themselves with the ball with good experience.
Batting coach:
Im particular about this one.
Foreign (very important as Zim based batting coaches are overly classical) someone who had played the modern game and retired less than ten years and was a multi format success internationally. I'm not overly focused on experience here. Just a gun player who knows how it is out there and eager to make a name for himself.

Younis Khan - Head coach. I think this guy is suitable for us. Wealth of experience and I think he is someone who can revive our traditional formats, Tests and ODI. With him, we will not really need a batting coach.
With a good package and considering he is from Pakistan, being in Zim for most of the year should not be that much of a downgrade for him.
Bowling Coach - Well he would need to bring in someone he wants and prefers.
"Assistant coach" - Get a local lad who would also be some sort of link between the coach and the locals. Someone like Brent/Panyangara (where is this guy?). In such a setup we would need someone to give more information on local conditions etc.

1) Players to be 100% fit, special care on fitness of best 5 seniors as they should be available in all important matches keeping in mind the ICC Tournament
2) Bring in the modern approach of playing the shortest format in power plays, maintaining good run rate in middle overs, setting a target and chasing up totals.
3)Improving the skills of players who have allround abilities so that they can deliver when required.
4)Bowling needs drastic changes, pacers needs to learn the art of knuckle bowl, slower bouncers, cutters and yorkers
5) Base ball module needs to be brought in for developing hard hitters
6)Coach should be among one of the selector and should have freedom in arguing for selection of a player
7) What Zimbabwe improved slightly under Rajput is playing spin in sub continent conditions, this should continue more as Zim has quite more tours in subcontinent including some ICC events
8) Should work on mental status of the players and give them freedom to express about anything regarding the game
My choices are : Hathurasingha, Younis Khan, Grant Flower, Steve Rhodes, Stuart Law, Sabbi Azhar, S Sriram
Bowling Ciach : Azhar Mahmood, Eric Simons, Andy Bichel, V Drakes

Panyangara slinked his way to Tasmania or Vic a few years back.
But why specifically Younus or Panyangara?
I like Brent, because he was not naturally gifted at all (was a 110 km/hr bowler ffs!) but was so technically sound he managed to forge a decent career. Imagine, with his skills, and the genes to bowl 140? he would be the Zim GOAT.
He is also highly rated by everyone he's worked with and is a no brainer for me to be part of the setup. Dont know if it will happen though.

Agree would be nice to have Brent involved, maybe as an Assistant or something.
This has to be Shepherd Makunura, surely. I know he's been involved with the national team as a part-time fielding coach or something, but surely its time for him to be given a chance as a proper assistant coach. His domestic record first at Mountaineers and now at Rocks is quite sensational, and he's worked a lot with some of the younger players now in the national side. I definitely want to see him in the setup. He will please the Takashinga lot as well, but he also seems quite independent minded and smart as opposed to most of them.....

I think we desperately need a specialist spin bowling coach too. It is mindboggling that someone like Wellington or Mavuta have to learn their trade all by themselves with absolutely no one to guide them with nuances. While Mavuta has suffered the consequences, Wellington has kept himself afloat. Who do they turn to for advice at all?

Wellington just bowls that generic off spin they all do. Its a dioscipline that never gets alot of wickets but never gets tonked unless the batsmen get themselves out.
Do we get a leg or off spin bowling coach? Ray price?
it seems like it would be a part time gig.

Another criteria;
- A coach who tries to actually win matches by picking his best XI instead of having your best white-ball player in history sitting in the pavilion and another two quality experienced players sitting in the hotel.

Well laid out. Pretty much a job description this. But from experience of supporting this team since the early 2000s, I think soon after failing to qualify for the next WC, we will see all of Williams, Ervine and Taylor walking away at the same time. It must suck to be in such a toxic losing environment. Raza might stick around, be made captain but eventually fall away. So it will be very tough for any coach coming in without senior players. A repeat of the 2004-2007 period where it was so bad we had to give up test cricket. All the best to us though. The 3 match ODI series is potentially the last kick of our cricket. A 3-0 loss there might be another push-out factor for the seniors left in the team. Tough days ahead.
I agree with those coaches also. @Doggy, I think Younis Khan has a better cricket brain and when I saw him taking notes when his team was batting against us, he seems to be someone who notices strengths and weaknesses and has ideas to resolve some technical and game plan issues.

Whatmore is prolly the best bet for a guy who has a track record of working with mediocre to poor sides and instilling self belief.
Hathurasinghe is a very good tactician, but he beefs with players and both of his senior gigs ended in flames (Bangladesh and his native Sri Lanka). Hathu will pick his favorites and blacklist others hampering or even ending their careers. Imagine he blacklists Wesley claiming a flaw in his technique and insists on playing a guy like Chari in his place.

Grant Flower for me . We are going to go through a phase of a lot of trial and error with lots of kids coming through the system straight into the senior squad. You need somebody who is a local legend (to pacify Sean Williams and co) but also has a background as a batting or bowling coach because these kids will need a lot of coaching.
Probably by this time next year you will have Bawa and a couple of other guys coming in and needing to be shown the ropes. It's going to be a cycle for the next 5 years. You actually need an actual coach instead of a manager type of coach

If we CAN get Grant, it would help our spinners too, in addition to young batsmen getting tips.
Also, for him, it is a nice upgrade to become the head coach of a full member country, instead of being an assistant and a batting coach under someone else.

I’ve noticed you think a lot of coaches are unattainable.
Yet we have had the ex Australian, Sri Lankan, Indian and Streak coaching us. The ex Indian being current one.
Compared to that what’s Houghton? Dude In his sixties with no gig atm…. That’s even taking into consideration he’s from Zim.
Don’t think he’s the best option though.
Would be good if he can bring Ballance with him.
