What do YOU want from the new coach?

Opening post

Scattered throughout this forum, there are many opinions on the coaching situation.

Hopefully this centralises our thoughts for a bit.

Today i have no time for an essay, but the shortened version is I want a coach that can influence, foster and emphasise a winning mentality. We tend to buckle at times we should have the foot on the throat. If we won the ones we just missed, we would have had an adequate record under Rajput. But we didnt, and mistakes were oft repeated.

I also think we should have two foreign coaches and one local. Someone who's been gone since forever like Andy or Strang is 'foreign' for this definition.

Without naming names, I'd like to see this mould:

Head coach:

Foreign, proven record of lifting a dud side psychologically

Bowling coach:

Someone who was technically brilliant themselves with the ball with good experience.

Batting coach:

Im particular about this one.

Foreign (very important as Zim based batting coaches are overly classical) someone who had played the modern game and retired less than ten years and was a multi format success internationally. I'm not overly focused on experience here. Just a gun player who knows how it is out there and eager to make a name for himself.

ZC should contact me since i have head hunting experience!

Whatmore & Hathurasingha is among the best when it comes to lifting a weak side, as their coaching careers reveals such numbers.

Whatmore is very overrated. Achived very little with Bangladesh over a very long period. Siddons was a far better coach.

Siddons would be the perfect coach for Zimbabwe IMO. Especiallyl with the Young 4 coming into prominence.

A bit harsh on Whatmore though. Remember when he took over Bangladesh were ranked 11th well behind Kenya even. Whatmore took that team from 11th to 9th or very close to 9th, as well as the 2nd round of the 2007 World Cup.

Siddons was more influential, and Hathurasinghe had results in his favor, but I'm not of the belief that he did something others would have been unable to do, besides being a divisive character.
Bangladesh cricket fanatic, observer of all others.

Whatmore made Sri Lanka world champion in 1996, team which won just two matches in 1992 world cup. Whatmore made Bangladesh reach in Knockout of 2007 World Cup, a team which won nothing in 2003 world cup. In all these cases he worked for 4 years, whereas Zimbabwe gave him less then 2 years to work didn't gave him the space to work, reason may be he relies more on performers irrespective of age, colour then proven failures also plays a role in selection of players.

Some of his great moves were made Jayasuriya & Kalu explosive openers in that 1996 world cup, surprisingly brought under 19 Musfiqur, Shakib & Tamim by dropping underperform seniors in that 2007 World Cup, in the end they became overnight stars of Bangladesh

Honestly, I'm going to have to agree here. We've had quality coaches come and go and we've not really moved forward.

At some point, the finger has to be pointed at the board. It's not always the coaches fault.

Hathurasingha has also record of lifting teams. He lifted New South Wales when they were in trouble, helped in restructuring Sydney Sixers. Working with Australia's best domestic set up when they were having best time gave him an experience in shaping Bangladesh Cricket. Yes, the seeds which were planted by Whatmore grown into fruits at the time of Hathurasingha. He got into controversy with senior players, however leader like Mortaza made it simple, similary Whatmore also had issue with Ranatunga. Hathurasingha didnt got space from SL cricket similarly Whatmore didnt get enough time from ZC, but since these two have got results in lifting weak team, they are still popular and are in the mix of becoming coach of any national team.

I’ve said it before but Zimbabwe has had some really good coaches, Whatmore & Streak were very good coaches. Especially Whatmore, it was ridiculous to sack him when they did just because he lost two series to Afghanistan.

Whatmore did a great job imo, despite being given an unbalanced side for the 2015 WC, the team performed very well considering they won just the one match. He then lost his best batsman & bowler in BT & Chatara.

Despite that the team performed very well in Pakistan before beating India, NZ, Pakistan & Ireland (series win) at home. By the time the Afghanistan series (home & away) came around the team had played so much cricket and were crippled by injuries and lost both series 3-2.

I felt under his guidance we saw the likes of Ervine, Raza, Williams, Chigumbura & even Hamilton & Chamu become proper international batsman, this is proven by the amount of 100s they scored during that time compared to the rest of their careers.

Whatmore should never have been sacked, in a perfect world he could have moved into a Head of cricket position at ZC and revamped the pathway & junior systems. But in Zimbabwe it’s not a perfect world.

At this point, anyone who has played (and excelled at ) cricket at the highest level will do. Bloody hell, if ZIFA , the cesspool of corruption and incompetence will fire a coach with 70% losing record , why can't ZC sack Rajput and his useless coaching staff?. This coaching set up has a +90% losing record what do they need to do to get fired?

What was shumba like with the bat today? Innovative shots or just scoring off bad balls?

Kids got oodles of talent but needs work same as myers.

Hsvent given up on marumani. He owned that Zimbabwe 20 20 tournament with 4 50s....However people are seeing it in the context of their favourite players being dropped. Marumani is certainly deserving of a spot but when do we give him a break?

If they leave it longer than another week you’d have I think it’ll get extended (even temporarily) or they will appoint a local.

Seems more and more likely it’s Houghton.

Has he not f***ed off back to India yet?

If we don't hear anything soon I will be worried. His contract expired earlier this week supposedly.

The new coach will be comming with lots of tough challenges to achieve in short period

1) To make Zim avoid relegation from the Odi Super League as they are just above Netherlands in the bottom of the table

2) To make Zim qualify for the T20 World Cup 2022

in Australia

3) To make Zim qualify for the 50 Overs World Cup 2023 in India

Massive Task ahead

I know this sound crazy but any chance we can get Ricky Pointing or Try and get Dizzy again.I think we have had our fair go with some really good coaches we even had Phill Simmons at one time.

I think we should really consider any of the Ex South African players, I know we can afford a South African player as coach.Bangladesh are doing well with a South African as part of their coaching set up.

I guess it’s not a wild ideas to even try get Cremer he has been doing some coaching for a IPL team development program in UEA.Cremer can be bowling coach he must be a affordable option.

Dave Houghton head coach and Cremer as a bowling coach Is not bad option.

Keep Mastikenyeri as batting coach to balance the race issue. Everyone will be happy.

Matsi & Hondo has been Zero. Due to race card balance, cricket in africa is getting damaged. Skin colour rules over talents, and associate european countries taking huge advantage from it. Race card took away money & talents from Zim.

Namibia cricket team seems away from this race card but once they will rise it will definately come into effect.

For starters, race is nowhere near as much of an issue in Namibian society as SA or Zim....

Where does race even come into this discussion?! Why are you bringing that up even wtf. As for 'associate European countries' taking 'huge advantage' of Zimbabwean race issues, I can only think of the Netherlands - I can think of only one white Zimbabwean player playing for a European Associate - Snater. I don't think theres many/any African players playing for any other 'European associate'. Most of the associate players in Europe are your kind, aren't they? Maybe you can point out all of the European associates taking 'huge advantage' from Zimbabwean race issues, please? Please do enlighten us with your secret knowledge.

Also, we've had white coaches plenty of times in Zim in recent years and very likely to get another one (Houghton), and we've got a curry man at the moment. Most have been a bit s**t, regardless of their colour. We had Streak as coach and a team of 8 white players - probably your wet dream -, and still didn't achieve anything lol.

Race has played a massive part in Zimbabwean cricket (and Zimbabwe as a whole) and remains a hugely contentious point and important subject, but I have literally absolutely no idea how race is relevant to this discussion about Rajput being a catastrophic dickhead and us needing a replacement. Please stay on topic?

And why aren't you banned yet ugh. Still waiting!

That catastrophic dickhead Rajput made India World Champion in T20 in 2007. That Rajput coaching had a role in Afghanistan cricket in showing the world they deserved full membership. Its not the coach its f***ing skill less players and colour politics responsible for team's downfall. Rajput gave Zimbabwe enough performance which other coaches failed to produce, till Zim mentality in firing coaches instead of firing skill less players doesn't stop its hard for them to play any ICC Events

English domestic standard is high and South African players have huge role in it as talented ones left and started playing the game there, even few are now going for Irish Cricket. Few Zimbos are also there in county for their talents as they didn't got enough in Zim.You are big fool laundering here and asking for ban. You should have left the forum which you challenged earlier, why you reply if you don't understand the topic.? It was topic on Matsi that other member mentioned
