Opening post

T20 squad should be announced this weekend. Possibly they'll announce the Test squad at the same time, or wait a while, I'm not sure.

Let's see who can guess the closest! 16-man squad for each. Try to be realistic and remember its ZC....

I'll go with;

T20:

1 Chibhabha (C) :(

2 Taylor (Wk)

3 Marumani

4 Ervine

5 Williams

6 Madhevere

7 Burl

8 Evans

9 Mavuta

10 Muzarabani

11 Ngarava

Squad: Myers, Musakanda, Chakabva, Wellington, Chivanga

Test:

1 Masvaure

2 Kasuza

3 BT

4 Ervine

5 Williams (C)

6 Roy Kaia

7 Burl

8 Chakabva (Wk)

9 Tiripano

10 Blessing

11 Nyauchi

Squad: Madhevere, Musakanda, Mavuta, Chisoro, Innocent Kaia

I think we need to be braver and get Chatara or Ngarava in for DT. I would also get chisoro in for Burl. In non spin friendly pitches he can dry up the runs and create pressure that maybe utilized by the seamers

Test

Masvaure

Kasuza

Ervine

Taylor

Williams

R Kaia

Chakabva

Chisoro

Muzarabani

Ngarava

Nyauchi

We cannot try to have 9 batsmen in a test team. 7 batters should be enough, each with a target of at least 50

Any news on the extent of Raza's injury and for how long will he be out of action? I hope he makes it in time for Bangladesh series.

I am seeing a good chance for Zimbabwe to beat Pakistan in T20Is. There should be a man to man plan and everyone in Playing XI should be given a specific role.

After watching Pak against Sa, it is very much clear that Pakistan middle order is fully inexperienced and is struggling even against an average bowling unit. Zimbabwe prime objective is to get early wickets somehow and expose that middleorder. Rizwan & Fakhar are the only two that can worry Zimbabwe. Babar Azam has got an issue with strike rate, he struggles to play big shots so can be contained with disciplined bowling.Hafeez struggles against left arm spinners, Asif Ali, Hyder Ali always plays a rash shot to offer their wicket, lower order felt pressure and will not be able to score big if top order doesn't fires.

Will not be a bad ploy to start with Williams, Ndolovu or Chisoro in bowling along with Blessing or Nayuchi. Zimbabwe should field in 4 proper bowlers, with 5th bowler option shared between Chamu, Williams, Shumba or Madhevere. You can't drop Chamu, but what you can ask him is to perform within his limitation, a quickfire 20/30 and share that new bowl as second seamer, he has got intact line & length and can trouble Pak betters with his outswinger, that offered him so much success in period of 2015-16, 4 or 5 an over with an wicket or two will be enough to get from him. Tiripano has got good slower one and change of pace deliveries can restrict Pak within 150-160 which can be very much chasable for in form Zim batters.

Chamu playing is just an insult to all decent zim cricketers. Let alone giving him the band after his deleted tweet. That did not display any leadership whatsoever.

Id prefer a big strong hitter like zhuwao taking his spot at the top. You need Marumani after his showing and actually Chari as much as I dont like him actually did ok over the 5 games.

You cant drop Burl because he offers quality with both bat and ball. Something outside of Raza we don't really have.

Regis showed great form and deserves his spot along with Wes.

Evans is a tough one. Maybe for the ODIs but I don't think he didn't enough for the t20s.

Tiripano and Blessing are probably our best quicks right now and we would probably need two seamers. Tiripano had a blinder of a domestic series.

Chisoro is likely our best full time spinner so makes the cut.

The standard Craig BT and Sean middle order is key as all showed good form and good strike rates.

No doubt a shoe in is dropped without a reason...but with Raza out gives alot of opportunities for a fringe player.

Will be interesting to see who is selected.

Wow thats pretty good!

I think Jongwe and Mufudza are quite left-field selections and I would have liked to see Myers and Musakanda in the squad instead.

But f**k me - have they really dropped Chibhabha?!?!?! Can't quite believe my eyes. Absolutely delighted that they have. Makoni and Hammy have actually grown some balls?!?!

Overall a pretty good squad. Not perfect but much better than expected. I don't expect us to win any T20 games against Pakistan tbh but thats okay. This series is about development really. Hope we see several players step up and put in some good performances.
Legend
Just reward for 'Bones' Mufudza, maybe the most consistent limited overs spinner on the domestic scene these last few years. But I would have liked to see Chisoro instead of Wellington in there.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Good squad, Selectors doing a better job of late. I would have liked to see Chisoro ahead of Wellington though and Dion Myers could have been in the mix but I guess Myers can be inline for longer formats. Good to see Evans on stand by.

Myers, Madhevere, Shumba and this new kid Marumani need to take this team forward in the future.

I feel that it still lacks a bit of punch.

It’s controversial, but in the T20s format, why not Cephas up the top!?

Is Cephas a class player? No

Is he consistent? No

Does he have improvement and youth in him? No.

But what he can do, is strike. If he comes off, zim wins. If he gets 40 of 22, he has set us up.

High risk and high reward. Low percentage option. But like Coventry, if it’s his day we win the series.

Because winning this series doesn't matter. Or even winning any of these games. The priority is the next T20 WC Qualifiers which are being held this time next year and the future beyond that too. Cephas will be 37! Also he hasn't really performed when given Zim chances before has he?

We are utterly crap at this format and we really need to start again, try a new approach and put the youngsters in and try to build the for the future. I'm fine with getting beat in this series as long as players like Marumani and Wes get chances and learn a heap of stuff they can use in the future for this team. I think the selectors have similar thinking and thats why Chamu, Cephas and Chari weren't picked. There's still a bit of dead wood in the squad but at least they are clearing some of it!

This is almost a flawless selection, well done to the selectors!

Only question mark for me is Chivanga - has he done enough? But not many others put their hand up anyway. So, Chatara is not fully ready as well by the looks of it.

Chisoros could be the other talking point. Wellington is usually very accurate, so I don't mind him. But Chisoro is not even on stand by while Ndlovu is, which is quite strange.

But overall, I think leaving out Chibhabha, picking Marumani, leaving Mavuta and Mutumbami out on form are all moves we probably wanted but did not expect ZC to take. So, this is a welcome team selection!

+1

Feeling like this post could have been made a couple of weeks ago on the first. :o

Problem is he has never come off for Zimbabwe in his past appearances. Selectors now have made it clear they are selecting teams based on recent performances over anything else and he hasn't done enough.

Selectors should get credit, this is as good squad as they could pick imo.

Super surprised with the Chamu omission, but very happy with it. Hopefully the others can show that they are better off without him.

I'm surprised with Wellington over Ainsley. Wellington only took 1 wicket all tournament. Ainsley also had a better economy rate. If i were him, I'd feel a little jiffed.

I think others have shown that they too can clear the rope, so this idea that we need a big hitter like Cephas is not exactly holding weight for me. He has power, yes, but he does not have the consistency nor the technique to be as good as suggests.
Legend
Want to see Jongwe bat in top 4 and bowl with new bowl. Last time he played showed glimses of allround skills until disciplinary issues ruined his good 6 years
ZCF Hall of Famer
Worried about the Myers omission. He’s due to go to university I think. We could lose him for a few years like Murray at this rate :(
