Edit: It's Heath Streak. Now been made public. https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/2104748

Thought it was best to keep this to a new thread rather than the T20 thread.

During Tuesday mornings game at Old Hararians rumours were rife about a certain former ZC player being found guilty of some kind of financial crime or corruption by the ICC.

I believe ZC were informed of the ICC ACU's findings late yesterday and will release a statement in due course. The central figure is a former high profile player. For those of us who have heard the name, obviously this could have legal ramifications so we shouldn't disclose the player name here until the ICC/ZC statement which will come very soon.

Here's a few things from Twitter this evening after the press got hold of it;

Shortly, big news involving a Zimbabwe cricket legend will be made public.

The player has found himself at the centre of a financial scandal which resulted in an intense ICC investigation.

Zim Cricket are in panic mode and will release a statement. ICC to do the same.

In the coming days, a big story is breaking on a Zimbabwean sporting legend who has been caught on the wrong side of the law by an international sporting body. This will come as a big shock to many who looked up to this legend & took up the sport this legend played

If there are local players he approached (there was a mention of domestic players - in some country, could well be Zim) and they went through an anguish due to this, they are well within their rights to sue Streak. But if they find this as an opportunity to just randomly slap cases against him, it can't be stand in this context at least.

There is a saying in my mother tongue, Kannada, which says "When a wolf falls into a ditch, everyone pelts a stone at it". This could well head in that direction.

UAE's Qadeer Ahmed banned today.

So, we now have; Heath Streak, Qadeer Ahmed, Shaiman Anwar and Naveed; ALL were involved in 'that' WCQ match in 2018. All have been banned, for years, due to corruption incidents over a number of years.

BUT.......conveniently, apparently none of them did anything wrong in that particular match or that WCQ tournament? Seems very very unlikely.

What would the UAE players have done? If they were supposed to play poorly, they did a really bad job, lol

Why would they throw that match?

UAE won.

We had a lot more to gain financially by putting them away

I'm not saying they threw the match or anything. Just find it hard to believe that there wasn't at least something going on in that match, either from the Zim side or UAE side or something? There's a further 2 UAE players from that day currently under investigation for other fixtures as well. That would make it 6 people out of 24 (players + head coaches) involved in that match now banned for corruption. Just seems a lot. It was, as we've discussed, a pretty strange match too.

And corruption cases in cricket are almost never about throwing matches or purposely losing/winning either.

It doesn't make sense that UAE tried to throw the game when they won.

If there were any subtle match fixing things that people think of, it would have been evident like an Amir no ball or something like that.

It's always going to be one of the hardest hitting games in our lives as Zim fans, but that happens in sport. Everyone trying to insist it was match fixing when the ICC cleared it of are just trying to now find fault in Streak.

The game was too important to touch for the future of ZC, Streaks career, players career and ZCs finances.

UAE could have theoretically did something, but they were masssssssive underdogs so wheres the value? spot fixing perhaps but we can see that didnt occur.

think of it like this.

Would be more likely to pick your nose when your on stage or when you're in the crowd.

Sounds about right, that's pretty much what I'd been told by my source
ZCF OriginalLegend
Sounds like his vision to help meant he got caught up in the wrong crowd unfortunately, but as once he found out it was wrong, he stopped. He has accepted his punishment and admitted to the wrong. He has done wrong, now if we could just stop kicking him whilst he is down or ZC celebrating this.

If anyone should be sued for that match, it should be Mr Duckworth and Mr Lewis, i still find the formula very flowed omg. That day was really dark and topped by the arrogant Afghans in all ZC FB groups it was a huge shitshow
the higher you go the cooler it becomes
