Former Chevrons U-19 all-rounder Andre Odendaal has been shortlisted to make a shock debut for the national senior side, almost a decade after his tryst with cricket at international level, if sources are to be believed.
Team selection for the home series against Pakistan is around the corner and Odendaal seems to have impressed with his nippy left arm swing bowling, as well as fearless lower order hitting during the ongoing Logan cup campaign. The Southern Rocks coach Shepherd Makunura specifically highlighted his six hitting prowess and likened him to former Zimbabwe all-rounder Andy Blignaut when it comes to clearing the ropes.
Odendaal, only in Zimbabwe for longer than he had originally planned for due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, is expected to get a shock of his life when he is named in the T20I squad to face Pakistan later this month. After the setbacks of the T20 series against Afghanistan last month, ZC is looking to unearth T20 specialists like some of the other successful nations including England.
