Opening post

With the humiliating drubbing that Zimbabwe suffered at the hands of the Afghans in shortest format of the game, Zimbabwe really need to pull up their socks and make all the necessary changes to prepare for 2022 T20I World Cup in Australia coz Zimbabwe cricket fans around the World want to see them qualify for 2022 T20I World Cup .The obvious problem that has been hurting Zimbabwe is not being able to take full advantage of the first 6 overs or first powerplay, that, as a result, creates immense pressure for those who come in at number three and four to up the ante from the word go. Sikandar Raza who began his international career by opening in ODI for Zimbabwe, in my humble opinion, should raise his hands up again and take the responsibility of opening for Zimbabwe in T20 format alongside BT to give that much needed power at the top, these two can play spin and pace equally well. Jayawardene was not an opener but he opened in T20 for Sri Lanka, Jos Buttler was not an opener but he is opening for both his country and Rajasthan Royals and Virat Kohli has also started opening in T20I for India. I know this brings up a question that given Raza opens in T20I for Zimbabwe, who could assume his position at number six? I believe that PJ Moor can be the answer to that question, PJ has what it takes to clear any boundaries but the only problem is that he is someone who needs time at the crease to get going so if he can address that issue, which to me seems not a big issue, then Zimbabwe might have a better chance to book a place at the mega-event in Australia in 2022. By the way, we might be able to lure Solomon Mire out of retirement with that 2022 World cup in Australia.

This would be my dream11 for Zimbabwe in T20 format

1) Sikandar Raza Butt

2) Brendan Taylor

3) Sean Williams (C)

4) Wesley Madhevere

5) Tarisai Musakanda

6) PJ Moor

7) Ryan Burl

8) Donald Tiripano

9) Tendai Chisoro

10) Blessing Muzarabani

11) Richard Ngarava

12) Craig Ervine

13) Jarvis

14) Mavuta

15) Cephas Zhuwao ( only for the qualifiers coz he will fare terribly against quality oppositions)

It is criminal not to open with our best in T20s. The first 6 overs are there to be feasted on.

It’s bad coaching not to have Taylor/Raza/Williams open.

Will go with Jarvis ahead of Tiripano in the playing 11, otherwise a very good team.

The whitewash against Afghanistan was expected. In T20, Afghanistan is the fastest growing nation and, as of now, they are comparable to Bangladesh, aiming to catch on Sri Lanka in their climbing.

Rather than deciding which is best Zimbabwe line-up, I would be more keen to see Zimbabwe squad play MORE OFTEN. Zimbabwe players play, on a yearly basis, less matches than those from other nations, notwithstanding less chance to test their skills in T20 leagues around the world.

Let's (at least) double the matches played by Zimbabwe and then best line-up will arise automatically.

Anyhow: Forza Zimbabwe!

They need to find specialist T20 players. Can't just play the same players in every format.

It should be mentioned that Zimbabwe has to play in a qualifying tournament in early 2022 and place top 2 in their group to make it to Australia

Come on! Do Zimbabwe get to play more tests than T20s? Why do associate nations get to play T20I World Cups instead of ODI World Cups and World Test Championships? It is because the T20 format is the easiest and the format is more suitable for those teams with lesser skills. In T20, you just got to hit as many out of the park as you can in that short period of time, it is as simple as that. In my opinion, Zimbabwe lost all those three T20Is in the first six overs of their run chase on this UAE tour due to the inability of the openers to give a flying start, they were terrible against the spinners, no rotation of strike, no feet movement and playing too many dots and creating lots of pressure for the middle order batsmen with unachievable RRR ( required run rate ).

A very big No to Jarvis in the T20 format, he is too expensive, his bowling is more suited to test format and I also do not like him being in the ODI squad, his pace has gone drastically, yes he has got better control of his line and length. We all know Tiripano can legitimately score important runs and his bowling in the shorter format is not that bad so Tiripano over Jarvis for me.

Rubbish, he retired on 10 Nov 2020 after the Pakistan series to give youngsters a go. He could coach power hitting at least cause he was good at that.
Why people are discussing about retired players.

Now focus on current players and on those who are available in bench.

It's really Chigumbura and Waller are not even good in T20. They are not consistent anywhere. Tiripano is far better then these two.

Concentrate on PJ, Burl, madhvere, Prince or Zuwao. If kumun improve his shot selection then he will be best.

Tari has to solve his footwork.

Main thing is if bowlers can bowling well then we can easily win. On an aragerage we are suppose to manage 150 easlily. IN T20 if 2 or 3 batsmen worked good then it's enough. But in the case of Bowling department, Everyone has to perform and it's compalsary to win any T20 match.

Our bowlers must have to bowl on correct area and with variation..

T20 match require extraordinary bowling. Yorker,Slow balls, Spin , Googlies are compalsary.

If you are going with Speed only,, You will be loss and punnished. Blessing, nagarava all must have to take ownership.

I must say, with all the names being spoken about, and considering it is a year away, I am not filled with much confidence.

Tiripano would get smashed by quality T20 batsmen, like cannon fodder. At least Elton will have a swing at some and may connect a few. There are no other naturally big hitters in the Zim system and I doubt they will find any in a year. Nabi still plays T20, age isn't so much of a concern in this format.

Yeah, there aren't any T20 specialists in the country.

My Zim t20 XI

BT wk

Raza (Zimfan1’s idea but I like it)

Tari

Williams

Madhevere

Burl

Maruma (I know I’m crazy)

Chisoro

Blessing

KJ

Mpofu

Until we see a large amount of domestic t20 games with a steady amount of t20 internationals we’ll never know what the side should look like

A T20 NPL followed by a national tournament is the only way. Otherwise we will never know who really can clear the ropes. We need to completely start again in this format. Do we even have any T20s lined up before the Pakistan series?

As mentioned before age isn’t really a big concern in this format so I would suggest Waller, Elton, Zhuwao and Mire play in a domestic T20 competition. Not necessarily for them to make the national team but to pass on some knowledge. If Hami hadn’t suited up I would have suggested he plays too.
ZCF OriginalLegend
What is the obsession with Elton and Zhuwao? Yes Elton is a big hitter but he is extremely unfit and inconsistent. Zhuwao was given his opportunity and failed to take them. He is 36 and not going to get any better. There is absolutely no point in putting him in the squad and hoping something comes of it.

Waller last played a competitive match in 2018. The guy has retired. No need to try and rehash anything. Age may not be a big factor, but all the names being spoken about, especially these three are 35 plus. We're going to need walking sticks on the field.

I don't understand the thought process here. One side we talk about how we need to blood the youngsters and theres this push to play Wes no matter what. On the other side we want to bring back players who have not played in years nor shown any quality.

T20 is not a hard game. Cricket in general is not hard. We can do well at the T20WC, but it will just require proper planning and development from now. Our admins are just too dumb to do that or see it, and our coaches are too poor to know how to coach, train, and develop.
ZCF OriginalVeteran
Raza opening makes sense. It's clearly not working batting him at 5.

Is Chamu still the interim captain? They really should have given it to Raza. Extra responsibility I think would really help his game and he's clearly a leader out there.
ZCF OriginalZCF Hall of Famer
Haven't heard anything different but if they don't pick him we'll all cope.
