Opening post

Very excited about this tourney. I've always been inordinately fascinated by Associate cricket and in particular I'm rooting for Nepal and PNG who have native teams and will get a chance to play on TV for the first time should they make the Supers. Of course, I'm an Afghan fan, but they have had so much success recently that a subpar performance would be good. Still want them to get 1 of the WC berths. As for the other berth, I can't decide which team I would like to see, although Nepal seems the obvious choice.

Looking at the teams based on rank order, here are my predictions:

9) West Indies - they will lose a couple of games, will it be enough damage to knock them out of the WC? My prediction is they will just scrape in somehow.

10) Afghanistan - one of the favorites given their form and confidence over the past several years. But their batting is weak, like most of the teams here. They have the mental strength to win in clutch situations so in a do or die situation, they will most likely prevail.

11) Zimbabwe - arguably the strongest side in the tourney on paper and well balanced too. But they're ranked 3rd due mostly to lack of mental strength and habitual repitition of old mistakes.

12) Ireland - better form than their rank. Like the Afghans they thrive under pressure so qualification would not be a surprise despite their lowly rank.

13 & 14) Netherlands and Scotland - outsiders, but they will upset at least a couple of the above teams.

The other 4 teams don't really have a shot at the WC, but do have a good opportunity to gain ODI status.

That umpire is a dog. That was no mistake. Raining at my house now. It must be hosing down at HSC.
It’s been called off. Scotland lose by 5 runs.

I'm absolutely heart broken for the Scottish. Gutted for you lads, you've played some absolutely amazing cricket and deserve to be there

Surprised everyone’s struggling with the scenarios.

The only thing I cannot account for is the intricacy if the NRR.

First and foremost. We win we are in. Not up for debate.

But Zimbabwe being zim we we need to look at our insurance policies.

The real threat here is a rainout.

That is where the windies win helps us. They are on6 points with a higher NRR. They go through it’s not an issue and Scotland’s lost condemns them to remain on just 5 points.

We then go to 6 alongside the Ireland and afg winner.

Then we need our *52 NRR to hold.

If Afg win, due to their bad NRR we should be ok.

If Ireland win its trouble, but not if it’s a close game.

Also if we lose, provided it’s not by much, the windies win means we will progress should there be a rainout in the afg/Ireland game. Both will only progress to 5 points.

The first scenario is what I’m keeping my eye on.
Heavy rain expected tomorrow as well. So its all likely winner of IRE AFG match will go to 2019

It’s not fair man. That was an act of God and ICC. There was blue sky all around and one heavy cloud over HSC, now it’s triggered most of the sky over the capital. It’s dark and gloomy everywhere. It actually felt like it was going to hail. Huge heavy cold drops.

The weather looks absolutely diabolical tomorrow in H town

I’m just telling you that an overcast rainy morning is highly unlikely. We had an extended weather pattern like that earlier this month and haven’t experienced that sort of weather for many years. I’m willing to bet we will get the game started. The toss will be imperative and whoever bats second can keep an eye on DL.

A triangular with Kenya and Namibia probably..

I fancy our chances. Kenya are rubbish and Namibia have been hit with a few retirements.

Why, who's retired from Namibia? Craig Williams no doubt

Craig Williams and Sarel Burger

They still have a solid team, with the likes of Erasmus, Scholtz, Viljoen, vd westhuzien.

They don't have a solid team at all. They have Craig Williams and Baard with the bat, and nothing with the ball.

Let's agree to disagree. They are extremely dangerous in T20s, and decent enough in the longer forms. Not to mention that the same UAE team had trouble beating them in division 2.

Indeed, well done to them, but it makes our pill even harder to swallow knowing how much of a set of c**ts they are

It reminds me of how the hottest girls always end up choosing the jerk or the a*****e just cuz he's "cute" when I would have treated them a lot better.
