Looks like each side will play each other twice meaning a ten round season with 8 games each, not too bad although in reality they need to be playing a lot more if they want improvements

That's cool. Then it's time to know who are the players and their respecting teams :D :D

Rangers....new franchise, great to see.

Last time few experts here were not happy with young ZRS team logan cup performance, few of them suggested to distribute the youths among 4 franchise and dissolved them which ultimately happened, but ZRS made the statement by winning 50 Over Competition in their debut season.

Zimbabwe's test future is at present blink, better to focus more on one day competition as the team needs to end themselves among top 7 to qualify directly for 50 Overs World Cup in Australia.

Asking for a friend...why do they need to be leaked?

Who are the Rangers? Why do we need another franchise? If anything we need three strong domestic teams that play each other four times. It is helping nobody having no-name no-talent guys playing Logan Cup Cricket.

It's hard to understand why ZC do everything in secret, they don't even attempt to do any marketing or raise interest in cricket.

I get making money from domestic cricket in Zimbabwe is almost impossible, but raising interest from fans is important.

Zimfan1 was asking of anyone could confirm the rumour he'd heard/seen about the season starting this week, and some random guy posted that picture.

The Rangers is the name of the ACHPP side

Yes there isn't really enough quality players for four sides let alone 5, but most of the guys in the Rangers side weren't playing franchise cricket last year anyways so they haven't really diluted the competition by adding them.

The bigger issue with the domestic season has been the unwillingness of the national team players to take part because they're off playing T20 tournaments in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan etc or because they just can't be bothered. I think this year we will see most of the guys in the early rounds as Ryan Burl is the only guy in the BPL, whilst no Zimbos were chosen in the PSL this year. Also apparently the Sri Lanka tour of Zimbabwe is going ahead, so you'd think these guys will want some match practice before the Lankans turn up.

Getting back to the ACHPP side it will be interesting to see how they go, as I said none of the academy players have much experience at this level, and to be fair none have really had outstanding juniors careers that anyone here seems to know about. In truth no one on the forum seems to know anything about any of the players, so this will be a huge test for these guys and a good indicator on how well the ACHPP is doing at developing these guys.

As someone here mentioned before the future of cricket in Zimbabwe is likely through private academies run by former players, of course these academies don't come with free entry so it's likely to be only the privileged kids who can join them, a stark contrast to the picture ZC have been painting about taking the game to the masses.

That’s pretty much cricket in general isn’t it.

Even in Oz, you’re still outlaying 400 US just to get a competitive kit.

The big exception is probably Pakistan where they tape tennis balls and s**t and play in the dust behind a Bin Laden cave, but that type of dedication to any sport is rare as hell. Let alone a game that requires equipment. Cricket went viral through the whole country.

And yes, why does this require leaking? So stupid.

Probably an excuse to change it, funnelling through a non official channel.
There is quite a good interview on the 'Dean at Stumps' podcast regarding AC Academy, where Dean speaks to Alistair Campbell himself about it. It was only 2 or 3 weeks ago, and is on youtube.

Worth a listen if you want to know more about it, and how it will be part of the first class set up.

Makoni will be hoping for one innings of more than 10 and he could be straight into the national side 😂

As I said, it’s a family business 😂

I've never seen a scorecard with him scoring over 50

Time for some conspiracy theory...

Is that how Campbell managed to get his team into the First Class competition? By ensuring a regular place in the XI for Makoni's son? :) (thus also ensuring a place for his own son in the lineup :))

Listening to the Dean at Stumps interviews with AC & GB they were fairly transparent, they said that the ACHPP is pretty much the official ZC Cricket academy, so yes ZC funds a large portion of the ACHPP (along with the expensive tuition). There's every chance AC & Makoni have made some deal, although I wouldn't be 100% sure it's on that large a scale, I think ZC are just happy to have the academy side in the domestic structure because so many of the ZRS players improved from taking part.

I'd say Makoni jnr is just in there because of who his father is, Givemore holds enough weight physically & figuratively without having to promise AC anything or making him any deals, he probably just said "I want him in"

I think they realized Rising Stars was a good idea, but as usual they have to control everything completely or they start to feel insecure. They’re afraid of Taibu gaining any sort of foothold because he’s so outspoken and they view him as a bit of a loose cannon. We’ve been the only member nation without some form of academy for many years. AC’s original plan was probably to have an independent academy with overseas players paying full fee. I say probably because he’s smart enough to have timed it well enough that if that didn’t happen (and it obviously didn’t) then he could make a proposal to ZC that they would go for. A fall back option so to speak.

He also cribbed Taibu’s plan, that should not be lost on anyone. I’m pretty sure he knew Taibu would run afoul of these muppets.

In all the years ZC have been mismanaging the cricket they’ve never had a proper pathway in their franchises for up and coming players, and they still don’t and they never will, quite simply because they don’t have the expertise or inclination to make it happen. They’re happy with playing the same players over and over in a charade of cricket that will never progress the game.

The AC academy ticks the boxes and can be cut loose at any point if they become unmanageable. Gary Brent is an extremely hard working and good coach, something they’ve never had in the franchises and with Jarvis and Taylor in that side they may well win some games. The problem is I’ve heard they’re a bit light on good players.

I’m curious what will happen when this intake is finished, which presumably will be at end of season. 14 or so players will now be looking for a gig and realistically only two or perhaps three will get one. Are they going to have brand new guys for next season or will they retain a few.

Those “lucky” two or three will become part of 30 man squads all vying for spots with only 8 games on the table 😂 They had better not win too many or it will be disbanded. 😂

That charade of 30 man squads was because the players voted against the interim board and it’s a thank you, we really have your interests at heart 😂 It won’t happen next season, these short sighted and basically stupid players have been duped again! It will continue to happen, you can’t fix stupid.
ZCF Hall of Famer
How many of those Rising Stars boys who won the 50 over will hold down a spot in a starting 11 this season? That will tell you how serious ZC is.

In what world does an Academy side win a comp against established “professionals” 😂 A combined English Academy XI would never win one single game against a mediocre County side.

Just in case you were wondering about the standard of cricket here.

I was just looking through the AC academy social media, they’ve played the U19’s on at least 6 occasions and beaten them every time. I know a few of those u19’s and there are some really good players there, they should never be losing to that AC side! It comes down to Brent’s ability as a coach. At the junior levels it make such a difference. Brent had an unbelievable record at Mountaineers and got sacked. Makoni himself took over and re-indoctrinated their players. That’s no coincidence!

His hatred of the whites is all consuming and he’s been the power base in ZC all these years, forget the Chairmen!

If Brent sticks his head above the parapet this season with a really mediocre side not even Campbell will save it from being lopped off. Mediocrity and subservience is the order of the day.

What I like about this Academy team is they took my idea that I wanted to see in the rising stars and places Taylor and Jarvis in the team for the kids to learn from.

On that note. Does that prove that these guys closely read the forum?

The idea I floated two seasons ago was to use these very two players in the stars as they are well paid and centrally contracted.
Are any of the players actually loyal to there team or just change clubs willy nilly?
ZCF Hall of Famer
Well no one really lives in Mutare or KweKwe voluntarily, certainly not any of the cricketers, and a couple of the Harare boys have to base themselves in Bulawayo to play for Tuskers so the short answer is no. 80% of the guys live in Harare and travel to play in Mutare and KweKwe.

It’s all a charade from beginning to end.
