Opening post

Test cricket deserves its own thread, I feel.

A lot of injury questions for Bangladesh with a little over a week to go. The franchise based FC tournament starts tomorrow and the national teamers will get to play 1 game before they fly off to PAK. Shakib is of course banned, and Mushfiq's family would not allow him to tour PAK, so two of Bangladesh's biggest players are already out. Huge loss, but great opportunity to try some younger players - if the selectors make the right pick instead of giving hacks like Mohammad Mithun a 50th chance. Shadman also likely to miss the 1st Test, along with Imrul Kayes. Mossadek may also be injured since his name wasn't on any of the BCL squad lists and his official facebook page has him posting pics in his hometime instead of at traning camp.

My preferred squad (guys not in the current selection radar will be in parentheses):

1) Tamim

2) Saif

3) Mominul

4) Mosaddek

5) Mahmudullah

6) Liton (Nurul)

7) Miraz

8) Nayeem

9) Taijul

10) Abu Jayed

I see most of the possibles/probables have turned up for the first round of the BCL. Given the test is next week, it seems like a good opportunity to get a decent hit.

Mosaddek hasn't turned out according to cricinfo. If he's injured, then he's turning into Bangladesh's version of Sean Marsh (poor bugger).

I see Mushfiqur Rahman isn't in the team squads either. Interesting!

Saif Hassan playing an innings for the longer game & staking his place as opener.

Shafiul Islam cleaning up North Zone. Maybe giving the selectors something to think about.

Hey, Kriterion_BD, with Mushfiqur not touring & if Mosaddek is injured, do you think the Bangla selectors would give Anamul Haque a run? He's one of those guys with a good, consistent domestic average but seems to miss out. A bit older than when he first played & surely knows his game a lot more.

No, Anamul is not on the selection radar. Got bowled for 10 last night as well. He's not international quality. Also at 27-28 too 9ld to really make a comeback. Selectors for some reason like Mohammad Mithun, who is an even bigger hack.

14 man squad has been named for the 1st Test. The chief selector claims this is also the same squad for the ZIM Test and the 2nd Pakistan Test as well. Hard not to imagine some changes being made though.

1) Mominul (c)

2) Tamim

3) Saif

4) Mahmudullah

5) Shanto

6) Soumya

7) Liton (wk)

8) Mithun

9) Taijul

10) Nayeem

11) Ebadat

12) Abu Jayed

13) Rubel

14) Al Amin

Shadman, Mushfiq, Mosaddek, and Imrul are all out with injuries. Shakib is banned. If the injured guys where available, we could have made a pretty good squad. As is, its probably not a terrible squad, although I really cannot fathom he selections of Mithun and Rubel.

Its entirely possible, given the SL series proved the 2018 win in Sylhet was not a fluke.

Its being reported that the BCB wants to give a long run to hacks like Mithun who averages 35 in FC cricket, while players who acerage 55-60 like Mosaddek, get dropped for one poor innings. They are also thinking of punishing Mushfiq for skipping a series whereas Shakib and Tamim got free passes for no reason.

If BCB continues like, the team deserves to lose to Afghanistan and Zimbabwe at home.

BD playing XI is basically set:

1) Tamim (blistering form in NZ last year, just hit a BD first class record 334 not out this past week in the BCL)

2) Saif (best of luck to the lad, though from what I saw at the 2018 U-19 world cup, he was not ready for this level at that time)

3) Shanto (again, not sure if he's cut out for this level)

4) Mominul (overseas Test average of 21 which drops to 8 in the last 2 years...yes 8, as in 8 runs)

5) Mithun (SMH - Mosaddek better be fit and take this position for the ZIM series)

6) Riyad (good form the past year, but he's getting pretty old)

7) Liton (that his bat pad fielding is the best part about his game so far, says much about his batting)

8) Taijul (batting 2 slots too high...Nayeem has more potential with bat and ball)

9) Rubel/Nayeem (even on a pacer's paradise, Nayeem would be more useful than Rubel who has the worst Test average in history).

10) Jayed

PAK winning the toss and putting BD in. BD 16-2 after 10.

Saif gone for a 2nd ball duck. Tamim follows soon after for 3.

Pitch looks pretty flat.

My goodness this is an average looking BD side

Zimbabwe will be liking their chances of another away test win, even with their injury woes

Mominul was looking pretty good. Poor shot to get out, but good set up by Shaheen.

Mushfiq should be back. Mosaddek is currently back to training in the gym so it doesn't look like his shoulder injury is all that serious. Shadman might well miss out and may require surgery on his wrist.

That said, the return of Mushfiq alone will exponentially increase Bangladesh's chances.

I thought Mushy was injured as well?

Mushy and Imrul are fit as per the latest reports. Let me check the BCL scorecard to see if they are in fact playing today. Yep, Mushy and Imrul are both playing the current round of BCL matches in preparation for the ZIM series. But there is some talk that the BCB may punish Mushy and leave him out of the ZIM series since he skipped the PAK tour (Mushy's family didn't want him to tour PAK).

Shadman looks like he's going to be out for a while. Mosaddek hopefully will be fit for the ZIM series and if not the 2nd PAK test. Miraz is also injured, but it appears to be a minor finger injury from what I hear.

233 all out. Highest total by BD in a long time. With Tamim, Mominul, and Riyad - the only recognized batsmen at this level - only combining for 58 runs, its a minor miracle that BD made it to triple figures.

Your mate Mithun doing the bulk of the scoring

Where is Al-Amin??

He was the best seamer in the pink ball test against India IIRC
