With the Windies winning Australia for the first time since 1997, and England's incredible win in India, I thought it was a good idea to dive deeper into how the WTC has shaped up so far in its 4.5 year existence.

Final starting in less than 24 hours...can the Aussies continue their dominance?

Australia have really been dominant across formats the past few years. They've blown past India, IMO, who have dominated for over a decade now. Kinda of surprising to be honest.

WTC 4 about to be underway with Bangladesh winning the toss in Galle and looking to bat first. Farewell match for the legendary Angelo Mathews...

Looks like an absolute belter of a wicket here. Will turn from Day 3 onwards and might even turn into a minefield by Day 4-5.

But an absolute highway at the moment, and the BD top order still managed to collapse to 45-3 in the first hour of play. Mominul though was looking fantastic...hope he he makes he count the rest of the way.

Good to see Mushy get his 12th Test ton, and also terrific to see Shanto play a captain's knock. They both need to go on and make 150+ daddy hundreds and ideally look to cross 200 as well. Won't find too many wickets this flat in the WTC all that often.

England v India could be a replay of England v Zimbabwe. England bowled like Zimbabwe after winning the toss.

Twin tons for Shanto and a draw in Mathews farewell Test. Sri Lanka will miss him. Kinda surprising he averaged 45 with the bat through his career as an all-rounder.

West Indies narrowly avoid the lowest ever total in Test history. 27 all out today vs Australia. Its now the lowest total in WTC history beating India's 36 all out vs the same opposition.

Lot of talk of finally expanding the WTC to 12 teams and finally bringing Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Ireland into the mix with two tiers. England seem to be wary of that, as it means they could potentially miss out on series vs India and Australia. ICC really needs to address that and can do so quite easily.

You can have two tiers or Divisions +/- promotion relegation and just allow cross-tier matchups to take place. There's actually a few different options:

You could have 2 tiers of 6, but make a system where teams play 4 series against those in their own division, and 2 against teams from the opposite division. Or you could have two shuffled groups of 6 in a random draw. Or you could have two shuffled groups of 6 with strong and weak teams alternating, and re-shuffle them every cycle.

India are fortunate the two tiers has been abandoned, they would be on their way to relegation at this rate. They are pretty much already out of contention for the next final.

Would also like to see the resurrection of the Intercontinental Cup, as the Test cricket equivalent of the WCL. Then the ICC can finally create a merit-based criterion for Test cricket, and a governance-based criterion for full membership.
