Opening post

The Cricket Association of Nepal is preparing to appoint India’s Lalchand Rajput as the head coach of Nepal’s national cricket team.

The former left-hand batsman is currently the head coach of Zimbabwe national team. Before this role, he was the head coach of another test nation, Afghanistan. Under his coaching, the Afghans had achieved the full membership of the International Cricket Confederation.

In respect to his past credentials, Rajput is likely to demand high pay from Nepal. However, salary negotiations are still underway, according to the CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand. However, Rajput has already agreed to come to Nepal, though orally, the official adds.

Chand says the CAN has also expected some support from Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The CAN is looking for a foreign coach since the resignation of Umesh Patwal in February. Since then, Jagat Tamata of Nepal has been taking over as an interim coach.

Like to see Stuart Matsikenyeri and Gary Brent in coaching role for the national team.

I’m not sad to see him go, he never really seemed like a good fit and the side has gone backwards under his guidance

The only highlights were the Test win v Bangladesh of course & finally beating Afghanistan in a T20.

Hopefully with the debt now pretty much gone ZC can hire a good coach with a strong support staff, not just who ever is willing to work for bread crumbs.

If this board is serious, they will finally appoint some proper coaching staff, however the skeptic in me sees this being Hammy calling someone from his speed dial friends list, especially if the tour of Aus is to go ahead.

I’m saying Hondo or Matsi will we appointed head coach. Absolutely no chance they’ll select Gary Brent, even though he’s the screamingly obvious choice.

Also, it’s nice to see young Ryan Murray back training with the national squad. Hopefully he can get the gloves now
ZCF OriginalLegend
Surely Brent is the obvious choice. Maybe they will go with Matsikenyeri but Hondo is an absolute no for me. With corona and cost cutting in their minds it will have to be a local solution

Coaching Zimbabwe is a poisoned chalice. None of them are going to make much difference, and will always be under political pressure.

That said, if you did want to coach Zimbabwe now is your best time. Ervine and Williams at their peak. Still have BT, Raza and Jarvis doing their thing and Wes has made his debut, and the debt is supposedly miraculously gone.

Andy Flower is ideal. Followed by his brother and Brent Or a Streak return.

Beyond that I'd be looking at a coach who can try to deliver a psychological winning mindset.

Yeah it'll be Matsi, Hondo, Sibanda or some random no ones heard of that coached a club once he was involved with.

Yeah, Chauluka + Hondo is very much a possibility. I'm just trying to further lower peoples' expectations when they mention Matsi etc.

This is the right time for anusha gamage to throw her / his hat in the ring.

Also, here's giving ideas to ZC: We could become the first full member team (or first cricket team anywhere in the world) to appoint a woman coach to the men's team by letting Julia Chibhabha take over the reigns.

Some putrid names being tossed up here.

Half these guys would end up being technically coached by BT during a net session.

I personally want a coach who dominated the world as a player in the modern era.

You know who would be a really good appointment l?

Tendulkar.

Just his being there will get Indians thirsty to tour Zim or vice Versa.

You know how they get with putting people on pedestals.

Do we really care who the coach is? I don't really see anyone suddenly making enough improvements to our players to make them any more competitive. If we had someone (Director of Cricket) in place longterm overseeing schools and age-group cricket then the position would matter more. But all we will ever have is a revolving door of coaches leaving little to no legacy. Bring on Eric Chauluka and David Mutendera!
My All-time Zimbabwe XI
Neil Johnson, Brendan Taylor, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), David Houghton, Sean Williams, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Paul Strang, Eddo Brandes, Blessing Muzarabani

Yeah a head coach can only do so much, it’s the overall system that’s holding them back.

Brad Hodge would be an interesting choice, I’m certain he is looking for a job and has had some success at IPL level.

He was a dam fine player in his day & has a healthy level of arrogance about him which the players could certainly learn off.

Doubt he’d take the job but you never know
ZCF Hall of Famer
Yeah he would be good.

If we had someone (Director of Cricket)

Isn't that Hammy's role?

The problem is though, he has already shown that he will favour his friends (Chamu ODI captaincy) over the right candidate, which would suggest that even if he was to oversee everything you have mentioned, he most likely won't do it based on what is best for the overall ZC ecosystem.

FORMER India batsman Lalchand Rajput has announced he is staying put as head coach of the Zimbabwe senior men’s national cricket team.

Rajput’s comments come after media reports in Nepal had sparked speculation regarding his future.

The Nepal Cricket Association reportedly announced that the 58-year-old mentor was set to be unveiled as their head coach while Zimbabwe Cricket insisted that he was still contracted to the local cricket governing body.

However, Rajput says he is fully committed to honouring his three-year contract with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) which runs up to the end of September 2021.

“I am contracted with the ZC board until September 2021 and I have no intention to leave before that. I have a contractual obligation and I abide by that,” he said.

Rajput is currently in his home country of India since March when governments across the world imposed lockdown restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ZC is however making plans to have him back in Harare as soon as possible so that he can take charge of Zimbabwe’s preparations for a potential home tour against Afghanistan that has been lined up for July-August.

A squad of 37 players and coaching staff officials started training on Monday after they were tested negative for the coronavirus.

Due to lockdown restrictions in Zimbabwe, the training pool is split into small sub-groups that are practising within their provinces.
