Opening post

The new FTP is due sometime in June or July, since the last 8 year FTP was finalized and publicized at that time in 2014.

This thread will be for any information pertaining to the new FTP and not the existing one.

Ireland have barely scraped through against Italy by 8 runs in the first game of the Europe T20 WC Qualifiers. At this rate they will lose out to Jersey. 🤦‍♂️

Italy have got a really good squad. Was rooting for them hard just now. It will be hilarious if Ireland somehow miss out on qualification for this 😂 But I think they will qualify in reality

Haha... I think Ireland will qualify, Jersey can push them though.

Some good news there SZ! Nepal are a good side.

Much like ZC, SLC actually asked the ICC to suspend them.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Yeah that's right, they actually asked the ICC to suspend them. They haven't qualified for the CT anyways and their next international assignment is in January, so perhaps they thought it's a safe time to get suspended. 🤭

Pretty sure ICC won't be as hard on them and we will see a resolution soon... I just hope the Zimbabwe series isn't impacted.

Are Ireland still touring in January? And is the one off Test still on the docket?

If not, the next ZIM tests wouldn't be until this summer vs Bangladesh...

Doesn't look like it.

There should be the postponed Afghanistan series before the Bangladesh series that will probably be played in March

Zimbabwe Tests in 2024

March: 2 v AFG (Away)

April: 2 v BAN (Away)

August: 1 v IRE (Away)

December: 2 v AFG (Home)

All subject to change of course

How great would it be to see Zimbabwe play 7 Tests in a single calendar year???

This forum's total post count would double from now to the end of 2024!

Can't see any of them happening other than Bangladesh maybe.

Yeah that sounds about right

You surely know the afghans will find a way to cancel. But then again it's tests so that might be their only point of interest?

Idk how legit this is, but I saw an Afghan fixtures post on fb and they it didn’t mention any series of any kind vs ZIM. It wasn’t the official ACB page, more a fan site, but it sounds probable. Disappointing because ZIM need to play more Tests.

Afghanistan won't play, I'm sure. Ireland are coming for a LOI series only.

The most important thing for Zimbabwe is to qualify for the T20 WC, else we are looking at disaster. So i think right now their focus won't be on FTP or tests, they would first want to get this job done.

Don’t worry St Helena and Congo might still want to play us.

A few years ago people joked about one day having to play the likes of Nigeria and Rwanda, thinking it was unimaginable….

I don't understand how Afghanistan are OK playing against UAE, and this is the second time they are playing bilaterals against them in less than 6 months but not against Zimbabwe!

Anyways, except for the games against the Afghans, I think all other series' in the FTP will most likely happen, but that is still not a good FTP. Need more fixtures and I hope ZCB can organize games against some top associates like Net, Sco, Nep, Oma, UAE and Nam. Will help a lot.

There was talk when the FTP was released that ZC were still in discussions with India, England and Australia for a bilateral series. Only England has come good so far (albeit just 1 Test).

I agree, we should be organising series against associates. I would start lower down against teams like Canada and Papua New Guinea and build confidence from there. Ideally, Zimbabwe should have organised a tour of Nepal or some games in the subcontinent against domestic teams in preparation for Sri Lanka. Of course ZC would have to pay for it all so it never happens.

As for Afghanistan, the last bilateral series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe was in Abu Dhabi in early 2021. Since then, three out of four tours from the FTP up until now have been postponed/cancelled with only one series taking place (the series with the ICC Super League ODIs that was postponed twice from 2020 & 2021 due to COVID). The other three series(December 2022 in Zimbabwe, June 2023 in Afghanistan and December 2023 in Zimbabwe) are a total mystery. Not one official announcement from either board regarding their status. Something has really gone bad with ZC's relationship with the ACB.

Personally, I think the Afghans are milking the full status membership.

They cherry pick who they want to play, that’s why Zimbabwe are cut. It will be interesting to see if they host Ireland, Bangladesh & NZ as per FTP & tour Sri Lanka.

One saving grace is they meet full status standards by hosting a FC competition. Which is more than Ireland.

I am a supporter of expansion but I can’t help but think the Irish are fudging it. The world has moved on, they can’t use COVID anymore. If they don’t host a FC comp to some degree in 2024, then their status has to be questioned.

Mind you, FC comps are on the verge of extinction.

Apparently Zimbabwe have entered men’s and women’s cricket teams into the Africa Games in Ghana in March?

Namibia vs Zimbabwe rivalry again
