Yes the Zimbabwe tour of Aus will be played in Darwin and Cairns

I’m not holding hope for any test matches to player by Zimbabwe, I’m expecting them to be replaced by limited overs stuff.

You have to remember the the new model for Zimbabwe Cricket is to play as little cricket as possible to save money to pay off the debt.

And Cricket Australia has used the winter months to to promote 'A' tours.

In July 2006 there was the Top End series with Pakistan & India "A"s held in Cairns & Darwin.

In 2009 we hosted Pakistan A in June/July, playing at Townsville.

In June 2010 we hosted Sri Lanka A in Townsville & The Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

In July/August 2014 we hosted India A & South Africa A at the Allan Border Field & at Townsville.

In July/August 2016 we hosted South Africa A At the Allan Border Field (ABF) & Townsville then India A in August/September at the ABF.

So, it can be done regardless of any footy codes are playing.

It really irked me when Australia canned the tour by Bangladesh a couple of years ago because the Top End was the perfect location. They are prepared to play 'A' cricket up there - for investment in the future!? But couldn't host Bangla because it wasn't financially viable.

I know the answers & it's all to do with the arrogance & profit margins of the top 3 but the cynicism to say you are promoting the international game & then don't s**ts me.

Plus, the lost opportunity for the overseas players to never or play very little in Australia would be disappointing. Ask Mahela Jayawardene & Kumar Sangakkara how many tests in Australia they played? Actually, in 2012/13 they did get the Boxing day & New Years day tests in Melbourne & Sydney but that was on their 3rd tour. It was the Top End In 2004 as stated by Jaybro & Brisbane & Hobart in 07/08.

Well I hope they choose to play at AB Field because flying to Darwin or up Cairns costs a s**t load, and I certainly am not going there to sight see.

When is Zimbabwe's next series?

There is a scheduled tour of Bangladesh in about 4 months time, I don't know if it will feature any Test matches tho. Does anyone know for sure?

It will be a good year 2020 for Zimbabwe if everything goes by schedule as set up by ICC FTP system

That Australia tour seems odd. I highly doubt CA agreed to that. A touring side to Aus in mid winter when Aus are generally playing elsewhere. Seems very bizarre.

Its part of the ODI league. Dont see how the Aussies can wiggle out of that. In fact most of those matches are part of the ODI league. They are happening. This is literally how this board will be saved because they clearly dont care if we play cricket or not. Maybe the Aussies will decide to come to Zim instead. I dont know if thats allowed.

Some are saying the Ireland series is now a tri-series with Afghanistan. What will happen is that we wont host a test unless the ICC intervenes. Might play a couple away but ZC doesnt want to fork out 1 million dollars for a 2 test series.

Add the Dutch in September as well

What will be intetesting to see is who takes up UK club contracts next year and miss out on playing against india and Australia

Clubs pay £200 a game if you’re lucky. That’s a grand a month, which is breadline.

Yup.Australia scheduled to visit Zimbabwe as per fixture

How much hope do we have that one of the scheduled Tests actually takes place? I'd love to see us take on Ireland, but as TapsC said, this is only happening in Zim at gun-point.
Not many clubs will pay £200. The top ones in the ECB premier leagues maybe, but most will be below that. However, you can certainly make it up to a grand if your're smart. Do some coaching (kids love an overseas player from my experience) and bit of bar work and your're there.

Regards the fixtures , the ones that are part of the new ODI league would appear to be locked in. The first 3 series of the year against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ireland are not part of that, so expect them to be downgraded into ODI/T20 series sadly.

On the subject of the new 13 team ODI league, here is a very realistic scenario:

Once the cycle has played out (each team plays 8 ODI series) Zimbabwe may well find themselves 13th. Netherlands are in it and beat Zim 2-0 recently of course. The bottom 5 teams of this league go into 2023 WC qualifier, with the 5 top asscoiate nations from League 2

If the team who comes top of league 2 (Most likely Scotland, but possibly Nepal or Namibia) finish above that 13th placed team in the said qualifier, the 13th team will be relagated into League 2. If that were Zimbabwe, well....I'll leave you with that thought.

NT Cricket CEO Joel Morrison confirmed Cricket Australia was considering the Marrara precinct as a possible training and playing venue for the touring Zimbabwe side in 2020.

“Cricket Australia are considering a number of options throughout the country for the series (against Zimbabwe next year), including Darwin,” Morrison said in a statement to the NT News.

“We’ll be better placed to understand the likely host venues early in the new year.”

That pretty much confirms the series v Australia will be played in Australia.

And in Darwin as we predicted. Could be worse.. could be at Ayer’s Rock.

What’s wrong with Darwin?

Great city

Damn. Was hoping for AB Field. Flights to the NT can be pricey...

oh well, perhaps we can do an aussie based catch up at one of the games and watch Chari score 10 off 40.

What’s great about it?

I’ve never been so I don’t know, but from what I can gather the place seems like hell.

Extreme heat, can’t swim in any of the lakes beaches because of jellyfish and crocodiles. Extreme aboriginal poverty and anti social behaviour. Isolated.
