The U19’s National side has apparently played a warm up match against the Mountaineers

https://www.crichq.com/matches/797730/2nd_innings

Good runs for Roy Kaia and Joylord Gumbie who looks like he’s changed sides, smart move considering the Eagles also have Mutumbami & Regis.

Milton Shumba has also made a successful move of sorts, he’s now opening the batting and scored 111 against a good Goats attack.

Good to see Wes Medhevere back in the fold, the batting might be ok for the WC with Shumba, Wes, Dion Myers, Dane Schadendorff & Matthew Welch.

With more preparation I would have had a lot more hope for these kids. They have some decent guys. This might be 1 of those rare groups for Zim where they have better batsmen than bowlers. I am excited to see how Myers Oldknow Shumba and Madhevere go.

A lot of them have been playing in this setup for a while and honestly i'm not mad at this strategy of preparing by playing against the domestic sides. Its definitely an eye opener for them. They should play all the franchises before they go.

On the other hand Kaia and Shingi going at 7 an over against a bunch of high school kids is very concerning. Shingi especially.

The U19’s side has played a couple more warm up matches against the ACHPP

Good runs from Dane Schadendorf & Matthew Welch, the bowling again looks very concerning as they conceded over 320 against the Rangers

Better bowling effort in this match, they seem to be lacking a couple strike bowlers up front. Where is that young quick fella Dion Mazhawidza ?

This is the best draw we could have asked for. With Mangongo at the helm, we could have probably cleared the group stages too?

Who is coaching the U19s now, by the way?

Utseya is serving as coach or assistant coach role from 2014 and is a big failure... ZIM U19 finished 10th in 2016 U19 World Cup & 11th in 2018 U19 World Cup

Utseya is controversial character, plays race card for hus benefit, such type of failures should be thrown out from any post related to grass root level.

Shumba & Madhevere playing Under 19 Cricket from 2016. Myers & Schadendorff for 2 years, by now they should have been part of domestic cricket or even national side, such a poor selection process, youngstars bound to move to other nation.

Zimfan1 is reporting on twitter that the side for the WC has been picked

D. Myers (C)

M. Shumba

W. Madhevhere (VC)

L. Oldknow

R. Ahmed

T. Tugwete

G. Chirawu

P. Chesa

T. Nyangani

S. Ruwisi

E. Bawa

D. Grant

D. Schadenoff

T. Marumani

B. James

We know a few names here, mainly the batsman, not too sure about the bowlers ???

Matthew Welch was taking part in the trial matches but hasn’t been picked, also that seamer from the last edition Nkosilathi Nungu hasn’t been picked either which is surprising as he’s been doing well in the trial matches as well.

I guess it wouldn’t be a Zimbabwean squad without a few puzzling selections

If this highly experienced side finishes low in the final standing then there is serious trouble in Zimbabwe as per talent is considered.A good unit is there from past under 19 world cups, who could have been now national team future.

Biggest problem of this team, they are guided by a controversial & failure coach, who gets appointed by the means of politics.

LAMB APPOINTED ZIMBABWE UNDER-19 BATTING COACH

Zimbabwe Cricket has appointed Greg Lamb as batting coach for the national Under-19 side.

The 38-year-old former Zimbabwe international has previously served in the same role.

He has joined the national Under-19 technical team led by head coach Prosper Utseya as Zimbabwe prepare for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020 that will be held in South Africa from 17 January to 9 February.

“It’s a privilege to be back with the national Under-19 team and I am already enjoying working with such a talented group of players as we prepare for the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa,” Lamb said.

“What makes it more exciting is that I am working with most of the technical staffers that I have worked with before, which makes it easier for us to function efficiently as a unit as we all know each other very well.”

ZC director of cricket Hamilton Masakadza has hailed the appointment, saying Lamb’s experience as a player and a coach will be valuable especially ahead of the biennial global youth tournament.

“Greg is a great addition to the Under-19 technical team. His vast knowledge of the game and ability to get players to improve on their talent and also to perform better in matches will be valuable,” Masakadza said.

Apart from Utseya and Lamb, the other members of the Zimbabwe Under-19 technical staff are team manager Moses Chitare, analyst Mufaro Chiturumani, physiotherapist Travor Wambe and fitness trainer Walter Karimanzira.

Utseya as coach is exactly what the young minds should not be exposed to. Sad.

How does Lamb get appointed the batting coach when there’s no time left to coach? 😂 They’ve been practicing for about a year.

It starts in a month. He should just pitch up on the day and they could save a month’s salary.

I guess they need a name on the program where it says - Batting Coach 😂

For the team to play it’s first international a few days before the WC does not auger well. We’re in miracle territory if anyone is expecting better than 12th spot.

There are some good batters in particular in that side, they deserve better treatment than that.
