Opening post

1st Test, Sylhet Nov 28-Dec 2

2nd Test, Dhaka Dec 6-10

Both teams kicking off the third WTC cycle. Bangladesh in woeful form across all 3 formats for many years now - so long you can't even call it "form" anymore. NZ will be licking their lips to pick up some much needed points after a disappointing finish in the last cycle.

Trent Boult and Matt Henry missing out for the Blackcaps, who otherwise have a very strong looking squad.

Shakib, Taskin, Ebadot out injured for BD. Tamim also unavailable despite presumably being fit.

NZ squad:

Tim Southee (captain)

Tom Blundell (WK)

Tom Latham

Kane Williamson

Daryl Mitchell

Rachin Ravindra

Henry Nichols

Will Young

Devon Conway

Glenn Philipps

Mitchell Santner

Kyle Jamieson

Neil Wagner

Ish Sodhi

Ajaz Patel

Bangladesh squad:

Nurul Hasan Sohan (WK)

Mahmudul Hasan Joy

Mominul Haque

80-4 at lunch...but of a recovery. Its Mirpur so perhaps 225 is a par score here, especially if you're NOT batting last.

Shahadat looks quite solid. Also a relatively big crowd in on Wednesday for a Test. At least 1000 people in the ground when usually a weekday Test crowd is probably 1/3 as many people. Might be the resounding win in the first game. Either way good to see. Its been a few years since we've seen a sizeable crowd in for a Test match.

Eeesh what a pitch!

Sylhet was a proper sporting wicket. World class batters like KW and Shanto got hundreds and both teams scored 300+ totals. But Mirpur is becoming a disgrace. It’s one thing if the pitch occaisionally plays this way but the BCB arranges too many matches at Mirpur for the wicket to get any rest or remedial work done. Women, U19, domestic, handicapped…all level of cricket plays way too many games at Mirpur. BCB incompetence. Why not play games in Khulna, Rajshahi, or Coxs Bazar? Why have only 2 Tests been played at Sylhet?

Magnificent innings by Glenn Phillips. Worth a double ton on a flat track.

Bangladesh effectively 128-9. If the last two can somehow hit a few streaky boundaries, 150 might just be defendable on this track.

Glenn Phillips with some amazing batting to save the series for NZ. Disappointing loss for BD but overall not a bad result.

Need a little more consistency from the top order playing at home. Will be a while before we play Tests again but we’ve got Sri Lanka at home in March and need to target a 2-0 win there. We are fully capable of beating SL but need to stay disciplined.
