Problem is that when FTP was getting finalised, Zimbabwe were in total mess. Hence no one really wanted to play against Zim, except for an odd series. I'm sure if FTP was to be prepared today, Zimbabwe would have got a better deal.
Even now, as far as there are no cancellations we should have good amount of games starting November... We might end up playing Ireland a 1000 times in the next 3 years btw.

How do you figure that necessarily? ZIM actually did worse at the 2023 WCQ (4th place) than in 2018 (3rd place) in terms of where they finished. In both tournaments they were knocked out by a team that itself did not qualify for the WC. For most outsiders, the end results still look very much the same.

For someone who relatively follows Zimbabwe cricket, it's outrageous for you to suggest they did worse compared to 2018. Even if you refer to the outside eye i.e, the people who barely follow Zim Cricket, victories against Pak in the wc, against Australia, Bangladesh, then India barely breezing past in one game, standalone performances of Raza, Williams and Ngarava definitely have caught the eye. While I was back home in India , I noticed the differences as well. Up till now people were ignorant following the slump of ZC over the last two decades. They only knew Masakadza and Taylor at most and even recently Zimbabwe Cricket used to be a meme in India while being coined with Pakistan. Circumstances have changed and now Williams, Raza, Burl and company are quite well known. It's absolutely out of order what you're suggesting here.

Used to be a meme š š letās not get ahead of ourselves yo. Zimbabar will do the rounds forever more and Kohli was cropping up everywhere in a photoshopped Zim kit when he went about 4 years without getting an international ton.

Going by your logic, since Bangladesh have more or less done the same in every WC (failed to make the Semi Finals even once) we should consider that Bangladesh cricket has not progressed at all in last 20 years?

Thats actually exactly correct. No one cares about all the bilaterals that Bangladesh have won the past few years if they are only going to finish the World Cup in 8th place. So what if they beat Australia 3-0 at home before or after that? Its time for something new otherwise the legacy of Shakib, Tamim, and Mushfiq will be that they won 5 or 6 Tests against top teams, a bunch of ODI series, and always finished around 8th place in a World Cup.

No, that's not correct because Bangladesh is far more respected now than they were, say in 2003

There aren't enough decent players to pick an Emerging squad that could compete with SA emerging, that's the sad fact.
ZC policies over the last 20 years have contributed to that and cricket has lost traction at schoolboy level.
Resurrecting that would take years of good governance before boys felt they could put in the time to become good players. The first step is age group cricket, and it has to be well managed, not buy a spot with some kit and a chicken burger.
Everything hinges on the national side doing moderately well. Always has and always will.
If you consider 5 franchises with 60 decent players, take 25 out that are in the national side or capped that only leaves 35 players to make up an A side and an Emerging side. We don't have the numbers to send in unblooded players aged from 19-23 so your expectations are a bit unrealistic.
