I know its usual to play in zimbabwe in order to be picked for the national team so now that Lamb is playing for a franchise and the fact that he seems to be head and shoulders above many others why isn't he being talked about in terms of the national team. Has he previously said he doesn't wish to play? or is he not actually that good and just an average county player now dominating local zim players

I have to say that i've only actually seen Greg Lamb in action during one game

His performance didn't stand out that much although he did fight hard during his 1st innings 54*, his strokeplay was very limited but this was probably more to do with the match situation than any limitations of his own. His very short bowling spell was always going to be a long shot as the only quality Zim on show was down the other end of the wicket facing him :D

Sean Ervine was a disappointment with both bat and ball while Murray Goodwin was pure genius ......

To be fair to Greg, i don't think he ever really had a run in the Hampshire side, but it must be remembered though, that Hampshire did invest a lot of years in him and won't have released him without their reasons.

With the years of experience that he's had over here i'm sure that he can only bring benefits to Zimbabwean cricket, even if he never did reach the heights that he may have hoped for.

r@ndom, just to correct to you, its really not a fact "that he(Lamb) seems to be head and shoulders above many others". I would put it to a strend of hair perhaps because there is a lot of talent going around in franchise cricket here in Zimbabwe. With all the hype about Lamb on this forum I was interested in watching him play and believe you me, his an ordinary player and he will have to bring his game up if he wants to get into the A' side let alone the national side. No one will simply walk into the national side unless you are Kyle Jarvis ofcourse!!!!! :D :D :D

If you look at his record this season, is not particularly good at all. Yesterday's one day game was the first match winning innings he has played, and his bowling has been solid, but not destructive. A few centuries or five-fors would make a point, he hasn't yet got any of either...
I agree with Aydee. He has had a fair season but many batsmen have had outstanding ones (Masakadza, Taylor, Sibanda, Mutizwa, Kasteni, Matsikenyeri).

He needs to get a few tons under his belt before he can start to think of national honours.

We could do with an 'A' tour and of the returning players he and Ebrahim have probably done the most to justify a call-up.

How about this for an 'A' squad for a tour:-

Sibanda, Ebrahim, Mawayo, Kasteni, Lamb, Waller, Chibhabha, Chakabva, Maruma, Kamingozi, Mutumbodzi (or Mushangwe), Rainsford, S.Masakadza, Munyumwa and Chimhamhiwa (or another up and coming raw pace bowler)

I would have much preffered to have seen Craig Ervine in the Zimbabwe A squad that faced the kenyans than Gregory Strydom. He's a much better batsman than Strydom and physically stronger also. Its down to the selectors i s'pose as to wether or not they're noticing talents such as Craig, or wether they're going to overlook such players like we did in the dark days. Either way ervine wont be around for ever, he needs a chance in my book :D

It is disappointing that Craig Ervine hasn't got more chances.
