On any other forum people would be throwing out the popular meme "TL;DR' (too long, didnt read) alot.
We avoid it on the ZCF because generally we are a close knit, patient, intelligent lot for the most part. But that said, if you cant hammer a point within a thousand words.....then theres a big big problem.

I'm going to defend the essay because I think it has a place. some points be hammered out in one (eg. TL or DR), some can't, especially if you're prone to analysis. like i said before neither bothers me. it's as much a place for one-lined 'text' messaging as it is for analytical arguement because it has no means to filter character types on entry
Watching the Australian attack this morning and when they toured SA earlier, I got thinking about the very robust debate that hhm passionately engages about age and experience, an argument which has its merits I may add, but also not devoid of gaps. I have been impressed by the relatively young (and hence "second rate" inexperienced attack at work).
I watched as first Cummings then Pattison, ably supported by Starc and Siddle (also not very old) pick up five-fers. I also noted that the likes of Ben Hilfenhus are on the sidelines for one reason or the other, but the youngsters were opted for, and did well. Now if we were to go the hhm way/line of thought these toddlers have no right to be there, Hilfy should be strutting his stuff, forget the five-fers...they just shouldn't be there period.
I will be the first to admit that I believe in continuity and the handing down knowledge from one generation to the next and always cringe at a very green attack, but you must admit Australian future looks bright and YOUNG. (Cummings, Pattison, Starc, Siddle and co). I also noted the 22 year old left arm seam of Boult and an equally young Southey and 21 year old Bracewell operate in the opposing attack with the likes of Tuffey and Mills in the sidelines.
So I am wondering what is so terribly wrong with Jarvis Vitori Mpofu/Meth combo, if the esteemed teams are brave enough to go with these attacks, and mind you as decent as Raisnford (best of the older guard) is he is not BETTER than those in the list I give, and Panyangara for me is behind Rainsford...

Very well put. I seem to remember a certian member of the forum suggesting that it would be a grave mistake if Aus threw Cummins into the fray during the SA tour... MoM on test debut wasn't he?...

when it works -it's great ... and it seems to regularly when Oz play in SA; think Johnson (who fizzled out within a year) and Hughes (who bombed out in his next tour). But when it doesn't it seems desperate: Boult (who may yet prove me wrong tomorrow)!!
First of all, let's not make the mistake of comparing our youngsters to Aus'! EVER! They don't consistently bowl 145kph+, will never touch 150kph and are nowhere near as good, which means they will never produce the same results against the top sides. On the other hand, due to our products' allround inferiority, our youngsters present us with a chance of instant failure the moment they face improved(not top) opposition e.g. Pakistan!
FlowerPower and aydee(plus many others here) I think you deliberately misunderstand the gist of what I say. My point is: Due to our youngsters' inefficiencies, they can only succeed through experience gained over time, not searing pace(which they totally lack), coupled with minimal coaching like Cummins etc! All the more reason why I rate Rainsford better for example . Like I said to someone who came with the exhausted Warne tale, I'm not against placing faith on youth, for Zim we are not justified in giving them that responsibility, because they are simply well behind the required level!
It would help you to recall what I said not too long ago. I value these youngsters and always have. If you go through a lot of what I've said regarding Aus from as far back as you want, it's always to heap praise on their youngsters - both batting & bowling. However, I prefer the experienced guys to be there because these boys can't carry you through a whole Ashes series, demanding tour to the subcontinent, or a longer series against a match fit SA, and you know that. For the same reasons betterdays highlights, it can go horribly wrong at times! As we speak Cummins is out with an injury after just one match! Mitch is sh*t in my view, but durable, so is Siddle.
