Opening post

This post is motivated by easily the worst comment to find itself on this ZIMBABWE cricekt form.

From 1992 onwards Zimbabwe has produced ZERO world class players who were black.

This is how Zimbabwe players stack up:

World Class in any format: Andy, Streak, Taibu, Paul Strang, Kevin Curran

World Class in Tests: Goodwin, Panyangara, Houghton

World Class in ODIs: Price, Mupariwa, Olonga

Average in Tests: Watambwa, Taylor, Olonga, Chatara, Hondo, Vitori, Jarvis, Grant, Price, Hamilton, Guy, Mbangwa

Average in ODIs: Brandes, Houghton, Hondo, Johnson, Vitori, Taylor, Chatara, Rainsford, Utseya, Campbell, Grant

EDIT: Sellouts Ballance removed, because I can't put Hick anywhere there. Anthony Ireland, Gary Brent, Everton Matambanadzo, Bryan Strang deserve a passing mention.

If anyone thinks Taibu is not world class then I give up!

Taibu was class yea , but the fact that you consider Panyangara and Mupariwa as World Class is laughable. Brendan Taylor is World class and showed it at the world cup. Mate don't let your racial frustrations cloud your judgement.

Chatara has the potential to be World Class. I really rate him.

Where do you get race from?

I'm sure many fair observers will agree with me on Mupariwa&Panyngara. Panyangara is in my view Zimbabwe's 2nd best ever Test seamer after Streak, while Mupariwa was for quite some time Zimbabwe's best ODI bowler, churning out world class performance after world class performance against world class batting orders. Panyangara&Mupariwa are sub 30 avg bowlers, who achieved that through bowling to serious batsmen - that's world class in my book. Not my fault IF you only started watching Mupariwa now, after injury&neglect when he had lost even more pace.

Brendan Taylor is being judged on batting, and he doesn't average over 35. If he was a world class keeper like Taibu and average 30+ then he would definitely be world class. Unfortunately he's had some of the most horrific series you can think of in his middling career (WI and BD away), and most of them happened in his prime. Anyway, I don't think Taylor had the technic or quality to ever be world class even if he was developed in England like Ballance. Hitting a century against India(& Ireland) at the CWC is nothing to write home about. Young Quinton de Kock routinely smashes the best Indian attacks for back2back hundreds for fun - home&away. If Brendan Taylor is World Class, then so are Campbell, Grant and Johnson.

At the end of the day Zimbabwe only ever had Andy Flower as the world class player. Not even Heath Streak is world class in the true sense of the word.

This post served to show that there are actually a lot of brilliant Black cricketers who are ranked higher than Kriterion thinks.

haha pretty certain you just made a list then figured 'where can i fit some black dudes in'.

Btw, not sure if you xonsidered that the 90s batsman would all average and have a lower strike rate compared to todays hitters.

Also Taibu was a very good player but was not world class. I'm even hesitant putting Taylor in world class territory.

Taibu would not have made any other major test team really.

I brought up the 2003 WC squads to check and the only teams he would have got a gig are the windies and MAYBE India.

Nope those are genuine picks. I haven't looked properly at stats to back it up but those are genuine picks.

It's pointless to say these players wouldn't have done so well in the 90s because a lot of them - Taibu, Masakadza, Chigumbura and even Matsikenyeri - excelled against full strength teams. That argument only applies in someone like Craig Ervine who has predominantly faced reserve players of what is already an average generation of opposition, and never had a poor record before as a youngster to affect his career average.

You've already removed India&WI, but I would pick Taibu over Mark Boucher, Ian Healy, Geraint Jones, Rashid Latif & Kaluwitharana and Adam Parore anyday! That's Pakistan, England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Do you want to throw in Khaled Mashud&Mushfiqur of Bangladesh?

Tatenda Taibu is the boss!!! Many have accepted this about him throughout his career.

Most of those players werent present from those squads.

You make me think about Healy though.

I actually think Taibu and Healy are the exact same standard to a tee.

😂 Are you trying to trap me into comparing Taibu with Sanga, Gily, Baz and Alec Stewart?

Purely as a batsman Alec Stewart is one of the most underrated players. I rate him higher than Any Flower, purely because he faced better attacks over longer periods, and his career wasn't exactly due to wild peaks. Both have something in common - as captains and leader they literally carried their underwhelming sides at the time.

Come on. Give it to Taibu. No way Healy could fly like Taibu and make his bat talk like him. :D

World class for me would require and average of over 40 with the bat so only Andy Fits in for me plus Houghton ?

As for Taibu look he was class for Zimbabwe and a very good keep but let's not get carried away calling someone with an average of high 20's 'World Class' ......

For the bowling Streak clearly has the best stats so arguments there but cmon Pommie Mbangwa ?

Tinashe is a good test bowler but again 'world class' he wouldn't make many attacks around the world plus his ODI average is 50 I know it has nothing to do with test matches but geez that doesn't spell world class .....
