Craig Ervine: The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.

Craig Ervine is the first Zimbabwean to hit two hundreds in successful chases for Zimbabwe.

Craig Ervine is averaging 111.66 bating at number 3 - generally considered the most difficult spot to bat.

Craig Ervine is averaging 54.88 this year and is now in the top 50 ODI averages of all time.

Our opposition are lucky Craig doesn't decide to bowl, he would no doubt pick up all 10 wickets in 1.4 overs.

If he get another 80 odd tomorrow, then he will be in the top 30 with a decent 40 game sample size.

The series is won. How fit is he. He seems to be having troubles with his hamstring. Perhaps give him a rest because how important will he be for the Afgan games.

When a batsman is inform keep him in the middle for as long as possible to keep him IN FORM ......

Bowlers bodies take much more of a toll so resting them makes sense not batsman ......

Jaybro is right but if the hamstring is having major issues, best play it safe. But ONLY if hes having major issues.

We chose to rest Hammy after him and Raza won us a game in the last year's Afghan series and we all know what transpired next. Makes complete sense to continue playing the people who are in form unless they themselves express the need to rest. In this case, they also need to consider Ervine's fitness with the kind of cricket coming up.

Already there's been two threads about him on the same topic bascially. This is an overreaction.

He didn't even face Jerome Taylor of West Indies in the CWC, so he hasn't exactly been tested while succeeding.

Only when he starts to bat this well against proper attacks then we can talk about him but Hami has annihilated Kenyan attacks arguably stronger than this Irish&that NZ attack.

If anyone should have been overpraised lately it is Elton Chigumbura. Scored serious runs against serious attacks. After him it's Raza. Third Chamu Chibhabha. Craig Ervine only 4th in the list!

What no one can take away from Craig Ervine is that he has come into an unfamiliar position - first drop - and made the most of it. While the attacks haven't been the best, it's not like other batsmen have been able to do what he has been able to do. Chief among those is Williams, whom some consider the best batsman after Taylor left. So because of that Craig deserves commendation. Anything more is overdoing it.

Just last year Sean Willaims averaged 13.50 in 4 matches against SA & AUS batting at 5&6. SA had brought in their best bowlers after the reserves series, while AUS had theirs. I doubt Craig Ervine would have done any better against them if he was there. Definitely not from first drop, so stop placing him above players who have actually delivered against the best Zimbabwe has faced lately, while the supposed best were failing!!!

I was also a big Damien Martyn fan. When he was on-song no one looked better.
