This theme of who is to be selected from the Logan Cup to the national team obviously shows the need for more 'A' team activity. Zim's 'A' tour to Bangladesh last year was the first A tour since 2006/07.
For years, (1993/4-2001/02) Zimbabwe had a composite team involved in South Africa's 'B' 3 day & 1 day competitions. Players like Ray Price, Craig Evans, Dirk Viljoen, Gavin Rennie & Gary Brent played more for this side than they did Logan Cup matches until Zimbabwe redesigned the Logan Cup in 1999/00. This year was a landmark year as Zimbabwe also sent an 'A' team to SriLanka. Price & Vermeulen did well, Daniel Peacock & Craig Wishart did ok but the rest struggled. I would really like to know Price's & Vermeulen's thought about this tour & the affect on their subsequent careers.
In 2005/06, Zimbabwe sent a team which competed in India's Duleep Trophy. Why on earth this practice wasn't followed through (perhaps I live in an unreal world), I have no idea. It seems an ideal opportunity to gain experience on the sub continent. Plus mingle with quality spinners to get tips, hone skills etc. After all, India sets aside time to conduct this competition. Since they were guaranteed your vote at the ICC you would like to think they may offer assistance. And what about South Africa's help?
I know Zimbabwe has many political, economic & social issue confronting them & a cricket dreamers' ideals may be at the end of a rainbow. But competition at all levels is healthy & the lack of vision (amongst other things) is heart breaking.

Anyone fancy Lamb as a Test opener? I remember him opening the batting for Mountaineers a couple of years ago with good success. Of course he would need to open in the Logan Cup as well ..., but we have ample time before our next Test series.

Yes, I remember making fun of that thought when you first expressed it, but it makes a lot of sense now. We can bat deep too with Lamb and Williams as our spinners (and Nyumbu wherever needed). So, it would look like this?

With Lamb, Williams and Raza as finger spinners , you'd have to have Cremer or Mushangwe rather than Nyumbu.

Agree about the verity, but on merit, Nyumbu is way ahead of any other spinner right now for test cricket. And I won't be sold on Cremer till he proves he has what it takes after such a long layoff.

Cremer is overrated and all of you know it. The smashing he got from Kallis proved hoow rubbish he actually is. He never won Zimbabwe a game just bowled steadily and provided the dolly ball for runs
