That's a shocker. There is no way we have six better batsmen even if he's not been in the runs, and the safest pair of hands in the side.
Something else: If Ervine is back I wonder how he will cope with the situation. I guess the Irish will give him more than a mouthful out in the middle after sneaking into their three-day competition under the false pretence. If I'm not quite mistaken there was a bit of an outcry when that happened?

Agreed. There are not 6 better players than Masakadza in my opinion, regardless of form.

Outrageous that Hamilton has been dropped. He always gets a raw deal for some reason. Is there something else there, does he have a poor training ethic or is he on the wrong side of ZC admin?

Yep, good questions. Shingi has also not been blessed with selectorial favour in the past. I guess Wellington will be lucky to get more than one game this series.

I think Raza's a pretty handy opener, but it's hard to argue with results. He's scored a lot of handy runs at 5 and 6 including a few centuries, and he can accelerate towards the end of an innings. So for now leave him there I reckon, don't fix what isn't broken.
I don't know where this leaves us in Test matches though. It seems Mawoyo is on the outs (has he retired?), Sibanda's in the wilderness. Chari is not ready (but potentially he could make it). Chakabva should be in the lower middle order. Chibhabha/Raza doesn't seem like a bad option right now.

Yes, Chibhabha is succeeding opening, let's drop him down the order; Raza is doing well down the order, lets make him open.

Raza's leadership credentials are being boosted with performances like this. His W.Masakadza run out notwithstanding, it seemed to be a pretty mature innings which we've come to expect from him.
What are the chances he could be leading the Test side in Bangladesh in November?
Chigumbura is no certainty to even make the Test team IMO, but Raza's position is pretty safe I'd say.

Any changes for the 2nd ODI?
Waller and to a lesser extent Jongwe would be in the most danger I think. I'm tempted to say go for an unchanged lineup though.
I'd give Waller one more chance, not because I think he particularly deserves it but because I don't think Chari in the lower middle order makes sense. No matter what you think of Waller, when he's on song he can go at a decent clip but Chari really does seem to be a "take the shine off the new ball at 60 SR" type player. Not much point him coming in during the 40th over.
Madziva maybe an outside chance? I think the management like the idea of Jongwe at 8 though because it's - at least in theory - strengthening the tail.

Why would Craig Ervine be picked in the Test side to go back to Bangladesh where he failed? He played every single Test innings?
If he's doing well at 3 Jemisi, why are you not selecting him there ahead of Hami?
If your reasons to retain Hami at 3 is because he did so well in Tests in Bangladesh in that position last time around. Then by the same token, why are you not dropping Craig Ervine because he did so poorly in Tests?
If you're picking Craig in Tests, on the basis of his good form in ODIs, why are you not dropping Hami&Chakabva who were dropped for poor form in ODIs?
If Mutombodzi, Dabengwa, Mutizwa and Vusi did so well in the Logan Cup but were not selected for Bangladesh, why is Craig who hasn't played and delivered in the Logan Cup being picked ahead of them to go to Bangladesh?
If Chakabva goes back to Bangladesh and does well in the Tests again, despite his poor form in ODIs, does that mean he can then be selected purely as a batsman in ODIs because he's in form?

Hhm, my good man, I simply stuck Hami at 3 because that is where Hami likes to be. I think he deserves some choice after all these years.

Let go of Waller and bring back Hami, if not just put Madziva in for him. More seam options and no fewer runs atm.
