Opening post

Yet another sellout.

Ireland in Zimbabwe 2015-16 October 1, 2015

Former Zimbabwe captain and current Middlesex batting coach Dave Houghton will join Ireland as a batting consultant for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

Houghton, who played 22 Tests, has a coaching career spanning 20 years. He had a short stint as coach of Ireland during the 1994 ICC Trophy in Kenya, before going on to coach Worcestershire and Derbyshire. He was also assistant coach at Somerset.

"What a great opportunity it is to have the likes of Dave Houghton with us for the Zimbabwe leg of the tour," said Ireland head coach John Bracewell. "His experience as a coach and knowledge of Zimbabwe is a real bonus to the group.

"I have played and coached against Dave for over 30 years and have always admired his manner and temperament in and around cricket. He has always been generous with his time and knowledge and I believe he will be invaluable to all skill-sets on tour."

Expressing delight at being offered the role Houghton said, "This is a very exciting time to be involved with Irish cricket, as they sit on the cusp of achieving their ambition of entering the Test arena. I hope that my knowledge and energy will be of great benefit to them."

Ireland will play three ODIs against Zimbabwe on October 9, 11 and 13 before playing a four-day fixture against Zimbabwe A starting on October 17.

I think John Bracewell and Dave Houghton's salaries combined, are less than Dav Whatmore.

You would have no idea .....
Bavuma, you won't convince anyone the your guy Mangongo is the right man for the job just because he is a native and very cheap. Stop for a moment to think through the reasons why SA has recruited Mike Hussey to back up the great Gary Kirsten, its obviously not because of his colour. 😂

Bottom Line: Top Teams don't settle for mediocrity, because garbage in...

So Dave Houghton is now on your blacklist. Just because he is a Zimbabwean doesn't mean he should only work for Zimbabwe. He is a professional coach making a living.

It's go tnothing to do with working for overseas or foreign teams, and everything to do with plotting the demise of your Full Member "home country" with Associates&Associate fans who regularly ridicule Zimbabwe (maehara aside of course.

Anyway he should be expressing his opinion on this. They do take pride in Zimbabween rejects those irish - Phil Simmons and now Dave Houghton. If I'm reading this pattern correctly I need to promptly look for an Irish Cricket Forum.
Yet if Dave came back to work for zim cricket you'd be throwing your toys out the pram and accusing AC of giving jobs to the boys.

This is funny :) No one has to plot anything against the "home country", just let ZC admin carry on with what they are doing..... 😂 😂

Why would anyone plot against Zimbabwe and ZC? No one outside of Zimbabwe cares about it or gives it a second thought.

I have no problem withh Houghton. I think this is the only close thing to negative that I've said about him and it's not all that bad.

Only Andy, AC, Grant and the rest of that mafia had issues with Houghton. I would have actually hired Houghton ahead of Whatnot. He knows what he's doing unlike this overpaid dinosaur basking in the African sun while masquerading as an international coach of substance.

😂 I think that one's taken. Remember that's the same guy who has some dirt on Panyangara and a few other native "deserters". They've already recruited him.

I'm quite worried about this tour (even before Houghton was signed) If we lose then we'll never hear the end of it! We must ensure that we beat them comprehensively.
