More cricket coming up - Bangladesh A tour of Zimbabwe

Two weeks after their India tour, Bangladesh A go to South Africa to play two one-dayers and a three-day game, followed by a tour of Zimbabwe, where they are scheduled to play two four-day matches and three one-dayers. The Africa tour ends on November 18.


Plenty of opportunities coming up for guys like Chari, Jongwe and others with these A team matches.

These A tours should future youngsters only. No Waller, Vusi, Utseya or anyone trying to look for form or something like that. Its time to give new players a platform. These old horse have had far too many opportunities its time to move one to the next group.

Agreed. No Matsi either. Burl, Mutumbodzi, Mushangwe, Moor, etc should be playing.

Yep, I like that attack. Want to see Mumba, Musoko, Wellington and Jongwe at this level. Exactly the right time to have a look at them beyond domestic cricket before they hit test level.

These are some of the players you might see from our end (at least 2-3 picks I'm sure to get wrong). Not a complete squad btw:

Shadman Islam

Rony Talukdar

Anamul Haque (*)

Mosaddek Hossain

Mehdi Hasan Miraz

Nurul Hasan (+)

Saqlain Sajib

Abul Hasan

Shohag Gazi

Anamul, Shohag, and Abul have international caps already and I think all three deserve a go in SA and ZIM. Mosaddek is 19 years old, and only made his first class debut last year (late by BD standards). He bagged a pair on first class debut, but has since hit 6 tons and 2 fifties, including 3 double tons. He now averages just over 78 from 11 first class matches! Miraz is an off break all rounder, rated for his cricketing brain by former coach Richard McInnes. Shadman has potential as a classical Test opener, while Talukdar is probably not cut out for the highest level, yet was on the A team squad in India recently. Abul Hasan I really like, not only because he's from the same part of Bangladesh as my family, but also because I think he has genuine all rounder capabilities. His bowling needs a lot of work, though he can hit 140+ clicks and he has a Test batting average of 82, at the moment.

Why on earth does Moor keep cropping up? There's Mamhiyo, Gumbie, Sauramba, Gupo, Mujuru, Masvaure etc all of whom should be in the XI very much ahead of him. Chisoro & Mbofana as well have allround qualities (like Masvaure) and all are better bats than he is.

1. He's been woeful in Zimbabwe's doemstic competitions, year after year, season after season.

2. He's been having pathetic club stats overseas against village cricketers while pretty much EVERY OTHER Zimbabwe player in club cricket was doing well.

3. He had a bad time for Surrey 2nd XI

4. Failed to impress in the Africa T20

5. Was embarassing an out of his depth in Bangladesh

So I ask, honestly, sincerely, why is Moor even in contention?

The shocker is that he has even been shortlisted for the longer format by some. On what basis?

Must Zimbabwe stop all domestic cricekt and only pick players based on how they perform in inter squad matches against shortlisted players? How on earth did he even make it into shortlisted squads?

Is there a quota system in place? If so, are the forumites abiding by it while not acknowledging it?

I don't think he has done much to be rated.

What is it about those two teams that bore you? They generally play an entertaining brand of cricket.

NZ? Apart from McCullum? Nope. But every man has their preferences.

Bangladesh it's the pitches. They are Sri Lanka-lite with their dead pitches. Suck the life out of the game. Besides they come across as a pack of annoying piranhas. I don't enjoy them.

Anyone can watch and enjoy T20&ODI cricket in patches and appreciate every team. Tests that count too, and I find Pak&WI exciting in all formats.

I think that's fair enough.

What about beyond the Test world; are there any teams from the associate nations that you have a soft spot for?

PJ Moor really isn't good enough at the moment I don't feel.

I agree that a new bunch should be thrown into the Zim A team.

From what I have seen this is what I believe should be the Zim A side

1. Joylord Gumbie

2. Cephas Zhuwao

3. Mark Vermuelen (Experience as he makes a come back too)

4. Ryan Burl

5. Roy Kaia

6. PJ Moor (Another chance)

7. Godwill Mamhiyo

8. Brandon Diplock

9. Wellington Masakadza

10. Cuthbert Musoko

11. Tàléñt Munyoro

That would be a really strong team

I looked him up when he spoke about the club scene. He's played in Zim B League before. Same with Vitori before he plucked from nowhere to light up the scene.

But Flakeman is consfused. Diplock & Munyoro should not be anywhere near these squads.

Takashinga had almost a full franchise team in W. Masakadza, S. Masakadza, F. Mutizwa, R. Kaia, I. Kaia and more who's names I can't remember.


Just like Kriterion would have no idea about Welch, how would you have any idea about Munyoro or Diplock? Eye witnesses Gargamel and Flakeman are the ones to be believed by your own admission.

Diplock does have a lot of talent. The problem of our domestic season being so short is evident here, we have a lot of talented youngsters but if they don't happen to be around during our two month season there is really no way of getting them in the system and giving them a chance to earn higher honours. You can of course pluck people out of obscurity and get them in the team but there must be some reward for those who slog it out in the Logan Cup, unless of course their ability is already known from international performances or Under-19 Word Cup etc.

I am simply an observer of the club and franchise systems. I am present at quite a few of these games. Brandon Diplock has been in the top 5 wicket takers in his two seasons in the league and more than deserves a spot in Franchise. He is 20, a big strong lad and a worthy investment. Tàléñt Munyoro is the most underrated bowler in Zimbabwe with his left arm overs. Anyone come and watch OH play this Sunday and see both these two for yourselves. Both move the ball big, both are pretty quick, they haven't played franchise simply because Eagles management is a complete shocker !
