Opening post

I stand by my previous statement. I remember when sean Williams was scoring consistently and dabengwa was getting scores of say 15-20 still dabengwa got selected ahead of him a few times. Matikenyeri has apart from spasms of inspiration been a let down for the national squad and hasnt scored consitently for a players of his obvious talent. I think its all mental with matsikenyeri.i remember in a test match against south africa in 2005 and Andre Nel was shouting all sorts of things at him and he looked like a lost lamb completely rattled. I like players like Masacadza,Taibu and Price who arent afraid to give the verbals back. To me matsikenyeri looks intimidated when it comes to the sledging

Matsikenyeri is not mental 😂

i think given his ability and talent and the new coaches they can get the best out of him and he should be in the squad. i would have him in our first test team to act as a steady head. i do not get all the love for craig ervine who is quite old and has only had one substantive international inning.

i think people are confusing him for s m ervine.

go matsi.

I know you did not say matsi was mental which is why i put :D after the comment.

i said craig was quite old. he is no spring chicken. he has only just made the national team. why did he not break through in the past when we had rubbish players like sibanda and strydom and rinke in the side ?

I would say if the team is to be picked on merit and nothing else... Matsikinyere deserves to be in the side just as any one. He had a wonderful season for his franchise, what more do you want. Who can take his place (please name someone with better stats not potentail). Same can be said for Vusi Sibanda he was rubbish not too long ago after being given so many chances but no one is complaining. I always wonder about Charles Coventry he is one player whose in the side because he can hit the ball and up the strike rate. How does he fit in a Test set up???

I have always been critical of all Zim players but lets face it, thats the only stock we got. Lets work with what we have. I remember even Masakadza was once droped from the side but he came back hard and his is one of the best batsman we have. Matsikinyere has had so much game time and thats a platform he can build on. Its really different than having some young 19 year old in his place.

It was an ongoing mystery to many of us on this forum as to why Craig Ervine wasn't selected until this year. He only has one substabtial international innings because he has only batted 3 times in internationals. He certainly deserves a decent run in the side so it can be seen what ability he has.

Sibanda and Matsikenyeri on the other hand have had their chance. The reason you would select a young player who has potential in the place of them is because we already know Sibanda and Matsikenyeri in particular are not up to international standard and don't have potential to be great international players. If we followed the idea of only selecting experienced players no one would ever break into the side. Plus Matsikenyeri's experience is a moot point as he always looks like he is on debut whenever he bats. I wouldn't select him to have a steady head in the side, he plays more like a deer in the headlights.

It is time to move on from some players, regardless of their 'experience'

As the whole Zim squad is young on average and have a new coach in place, every player should be given a chance, then Butcher can eliminate them one by one. We do not necessarily need to pick under 19 players, most of our current players can offer us up to 8/10 years in the game, by then we would have sorted out replacements. Most people on this forum would not like to see Matsi near the team, i'm sure Butcher will be one of them very soon, if you got no talent, you will soon go.

Eugene I really really really think you're correct in everything you've just said.

Matskinyeri hasn't warranted a place in the side ! Forget domestic form ! We all know that means nothing when it comes to the international arena as Matskinyeri has proved on more than 1 occasion...

Sibanda however gets my vote ! I think when we eventually return to the test arena, he should atleast be in the squad. I dont think many on the forum would disagree with the fact that he's got a solid technique, and has 5 times the talent Matskinyeri possesses. He shouldn't be anywhere near the ODI set up, that's just common sence. But for the longer part of the game, he should be considered as I think he'd enjoy the freedom to bat long periods and score some big runs.

And I dont think Coventry should even be considered for test matches, he's our typical ODI player who can hit the boundrys when needed.
very little cricket in Zim at the moment, hope the A side does very well in Europe, reckon somebody will upload some videos for the matches. These long breaks are not good for Zim, we need more games especially at this stage of development. Make no mistake the star of the A side will surely be Sean Williams.
