Ervine and Lamb confirm return

Both would enter my squad, hands down. That A tour proved that our batting is as limp as a dead fish against spin. Ervine was arguably our second best player of spin when he was knocking about

If those who went failed, it does not make the returning guys messiahs in any way - they need to show their worth too - how do we know if these guys would not have failed too? That's the fairness we are talking about. Judging everyone on the same scale - performance on the field - irrespective of who they are.

On field, Chari showed he looks better prepared than Tino to face the conditions, for example. That's the type of clear picture we need to get.

Having said that, Ervine's efforts in CWC 2011 in the subcontinent will come in handy for him.

Lamb in only if Utseya is banned. In at 8 in that case.

I would still take Nyumbu and Wasakadza + Williams before Lamb at this stage

Agreed. By the way, Utseya won't be banned altogether. Only his quicker one and the doosra are under question. He can still play and bowl his off spinners (and he is useful with the bat :)). Not sure how effective that would be though, as the batsmen would know he can't use his variations. But why on earth is it taking so much time to announce the verdict is Utseya's case? You can't leave a player in limbo like that.

With these two back, this would be my starting eleven for ODIs.

Its easy picking a side up till 7, but after that it becomes a problem. Which spinner do you go with, and do you go with depth in batting? If you go with the depth in batting, who is the third seamer, and essentially you need your two front line seamers to be really good. They need to be Steyn/Johnson esque where you can throw them the ball and they will do something.

Ive gone with Tiripano as the possible third choice seamer, otherwise Chigumbura will need to work big time on his bowling and becoming a proper all rounder. Lamb is there to add that depth in batting if it is needed and Utseya is found guilty in his bowling tests. Personally i think Nyumbu offers more as a spinner, but as was shown against Aus, Utseya can hold a bat. If the three i have in at 8 can work on their batting, particularly Tiripano, then that batting depth doesnt become a problem.

I always fancied Lamb more in the longer format because a) he is not a naturally quick scorer and b) while he gives it a bit of a rip and can turn the ball, he lacks a bit of control.

When Lamb played for the ODI side everybody here complained about the slowness of his run scoring.

Im intrested. Your squad essentially either relies on spinners, or confirms that Chigumbura has to be the third seamer in the team in which case he would need to spend plenty time working on his bowling.
