ZCF Hall of Famer

Opening post

Just a quick post to say that its really good to see these two youngsters break into the Derby shire side this season and hopefully help them surprisingly survive in division one of the county championship.

Both players in particular Burgoyne have been very positive in their reviews of their time with the Southern Rocks and by the looks of it hope to come back at the start of the new domestic season.

Two young lads with a good attitude came to Zimbabwe with an open mind and have reaped the rewards back in England, good on them!!

A huge part in rebuilding that belief process for Burgoyne came last winter with a stint playing for Southern Rocks under Dave Houghton in Zimbabwe, where he scored a hundred on his first-class debut and added another in the last of his seven Logan Cup appearances for the franchise.

“I said to the umpire, Russ Evans, when I was batting against Sussex that if I hadn’t gone to Zimbabwe this winter, I wouldn’t have been able to do that,” he added.

“I wasn’t mentally strong enough to do it. When I did get my first first-class hundred, it took me 300-odd balls and that showed me I could bat for a long time, so I think it helped me massively.

“I don’t know yet if I’m going to go back there this year – I’m waiting on whether or not I’m allowed – but I’d love to go back because it helped me so much.”

Higher praise than Rikki's "watching grass grow in kwekwe" ... Good on him and good for him. Rocks could do a lot worse
