HARARE - The last phase of hearings in the Asiagate match-fixing scandal will not affect cricket activities at Alexandra Sports Club, where the interviews are being conducted.

The embattled Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) booked Alex Sports Club as venue for the hearings, which are being conducted by an Independent Ethics Committee chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Ahmed Ebrahim.

Reports this week said Alex Sports Club would be under surveillance during the duration of the hearings.

However, Mashonaland Eagles area manager Dakarai Kuhlengisa said the Asiagate interviews will not affect cricket games.

“Games are going on as originally planned. We have the Zimbabwe Under-19s taking on Mash Eagles B team at the same venue today before league action on Sunday,” Kuhlengisa told the Daily News yesterday.

“I guess they have taken into consideration that the ground is isolated at a distance from the building and also because we rarely use the buildings when we are playing our games.”

Four matches are lined up for the weekend in the Harare Province Vigne Cup League. Alex Sports Club will host Uprising and Takashinga 2. Takashinga 1 will be at home again this weekend against Royal.

Old Malvernians will be the home team at Sunrise Sports Club against Glenshire while Old Hararians host Alex at OH.

The bowling section at Alex Sports Club will also host the visiting British bowls club.
