Sounds like Mutumbami wont be opening after all. Should have brought another keeper into the squad but hey ho...

Lets go with something like this:

Masakadza

Chibhabha

Chari

Williams

Chigumbura

Raza

Mutumbami

Jongwe

Cremer

Mupariwa

Panyangara

What makes you think Mutumbami isn't opening ?

I would have thought with no Ervine more reason for Hami to bat 3 ?

Whatmore seems like he has a 'pecking order' when it comes to team selection he doesn't really ever pick 'rash' or 'shock' selections so I'd say Waller is next in line for a middle order spot ......

Williams and Raza should be further up.

Top 5 should be Chamu, Hami, Raza, Chigs, Williams, not necessarily in that order every time. Richmond at 7 or Regis or Mutizwa or whoever as keeper. Cremer and Jongwe after that.

Number 6 can be whoever is being given a chance. Not number 3 or opener.

I like the lineup they used in the ODI matches against NZ but with the injury to Ervine things need to change .....
ZCF OriginalZCF Hall of Famer
Yeah - that post was without Ervine being available. Otherwise him at 3 and then the others.

Chamu

Hami

Ervine

Williams

Raza

Chigs

WK

Cremer

Jongwe

Panyangara

Chatara

would be a good look.

This from the preview:

The idea of opening the batting with wicketkeeper Richmond Mutumbami had been discussed within the team prior to this series, but that seems unlikely now and the player himself is apparently unwilling to make the move.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Yeah just saw that, I wouldn't take much note of Brickhill's lineup looks very long on batting but thin on bowling plus he includes Ervine who is apparently injured .....

Yeah I think the idea of opening with Mutumbami is a bad one, especially against Pakistan who have a really good seam attack ......
ZCF OriginalZCF Hall of Famer
Dont think this Pakistan seam attack is anything great barring the occaisional brilliance of Wahab.

Thank Utseya is dropped.

Nice to see this Kenyon Ziehl fellow agrees with me to some extent...but contrary to his thinking Whatmore must go.

That's why Whatmore must go - can't even tell the groundsman what pitch to prepare. Plus he doesn't use stats to understand where best to place players (bowl out Panyangara, bat Williams and Raza higher etc) or who to pick or not to pick in ODIs (Cremer, Mutumbami). Making Chari open is stupid even if he comes good later!

I just don't get it. Who really does call the shots. Because at the end of the day if the team doesn't perform one blames the coach. So the coach as the brain trust must lead. It will definitely be interesting to watch the Ireland and Afgan tours. These will well and truly show were we stand in the world stage. Ziehel is making bold statements like that yet they still continue picking Utseya with his unproved action ignoring all the youngsters. For now I will call him a bluff. Basically trying to coax the senior players into stepping up.

Prosper is finished as an international cricketer. No reason to ever select him again.

Unfortunately there's not much of a "Brains Trust" between Whatmore & Ziehl...and Alistair Campbell.

Losing to a full strength Ireland & Afghanistan, who have slayed full strength Test nationas before, is supposed to be better than losing to 3rd string Indian side and 2nd string NZ side while the world still hungover the CWC was not paying any attention. They should have blooded in the youngsters then and they would have been ready to compete against the Associates.

Because Zimbabwe has already lost to those very weak teams, and continues to lose to a weakened Pakistan - heavily - people now won't care who the personnel is when Zimbabwe loses to the Associates. To them it will just be the continuation of a bad losing streak. Whereas the narrative could have been "Zimbabwe's bench strength competed while losing and also beat the Associates, so they would have thumped them with Hami, Williams, Panyangara & Chigumbura there", it will be they are useless and IRE+AFG deserve Test status.

Those three are under pressure now. they have no choice but to stick to the seniors so yah he's bluffing. Even worse if they lose. Mangongo will be literally over the moon.

Seeing as I've long been accused of defending mediocrity, I personally can't wait to hear what guys here will say when AC&Whatmore lose to Ireland for the 2nd time in a year, plus Afghanistan too.

Losing to IRE or AFG at home will be bad bad bad    We cant really afford to do that. Its better to show the world we cant beat any of the top 8, but we are not associate material.

BRM is just about the only person who has realised just how valuable Utseya the off-spinner was for Zimbabwe. He's been the difference between ZImbabwe being decent and totally ineffective. There is a reason why he has been consistently renaked highly in LOIs. On average he is easily the most highly ranked Zimbabwean player for 10 years.

#BringBackSimonMugava! He's the only one who can pick off where Utseya left off. Him & Wellington would be a tight and frustrating duo for sure. The new Price+Usteya double-act.

Utseya can only bowl 10 overs. Even if he was vintage Utseya going for a tidy 0-41 from his 10, Panyangara and whoever is bowling at the death will still the opposition pile up more than ZIM can chase on that wicket.

ZIM scored a massive 330+ in Pakistan not long ago, lost comfortably because PAK posted 375 on the same track. Now PAK restricted to a far smaller 259, but ZIM couldn't manage half that. The type of track isn't making a difference in the outcome.

ZIM needs to blood some of the younger players like Musoko, Wellington, possibly Burl too.

Agree and a wicket keeper who can at least hold a bat. Kasuza or Mutizwa.

Probably the biggest hole in our list at the moment, if only we had BRMT back....
