How competitive is our Logan Cup?

We haven't played a test match in a year, in the meantime Pak have graduated themselves into the big leagues, Aus is recovering but NZ and SL seem catchable. Also, WI could be caught unawares. In other words, we could be mixing with the SL, WI, NZ crowd and with more experience pushing Pak, maybe Aus and India all the way depending on the venue. But we haven't played in a year. What we've been doing is playing FC cricket (which is why I "hate" Zim articles on cricinfo, they inevitably have someone in the comments section mentioning Ireland but Ireland don't have FC). Also in those comment sections, some Aussie was lamenting on player depth, blaming in on the Shield standards of late. In other words, if the matches in the Logan Cup are competitive and force players to improve themselves, we could be a surprise package when we fully emerge from international isolation. I love our domestic season and the knowledgeable debate we all have about, basing mostly on the stats available to us. So my question is, how relevant are those stats as far as international cricket is concerned? If someone made an impact on the South African scene similar to Querl's, they would surely go on to have a good international career, if not a great one. Another thing I've noted: we get a lot of young English pros in our setup now, which can only be a good thing (wkt keeping issue aside) and we surely impacted Compton's (and now Ballance's) career positively. So, really, how good is our standard? The WI tour is based mostly on domestic form, can we trust that form to translate internationally?
