Squad: CJ Chibhabha, E Chigumbura, AG Cremer, KM Dabengwa, T Maruma, H Masakadza, S Matsikenyeri, TMK Mawoyo, T Mupariwa, T Muzarabani, SK Nyamuzinga, RW Price, BRM Taylor, P Utseya
Batting is very weak. It's between Nyamuzinga and Mawoyo for that last place. Bowling is also weak. Muzarabani/Cremer/Maruma all fighting for the one spot in the team, and we have a real lack of pace, so it would make sense to play the extra quick. Three spinners (4 if you count Dabengwa) would be too much for a Twenty20... unless Price makes way for Cremer or Maruma.
I think it is safe to say Brendan Taylor will open today, with no Sibanda and no Taibu. But then again, stranger things have happened. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Matsikenyeri or Mawoyo opened.
Edit: Cricinfo predict H Masakadza, BRM Taylor, CJ Chibhabha, TMK Mawoyo, S Matsikenyeri, E Chigumbura, KM Dabengwa, P Utseya, AG Cremer, RW Price, T Mupariwa as the starting eleven. If true I guess Chibhabha will bowl a few overs...
awful effort 84-9 20 overs... the only time zim are any good at 20/20 cricket is if Taylor and Sibanda open the innings as we saw in the t20 world cup zim are gonna get a walloping here this has been a dismal tournment for them :(
bad worse worst.........Pro 20 series has just been that for Zims.Hopefully,I like to forget this episode. It was completely unexpected for me.I thought Zims could win atleast 3 games but now,it has to be satisfied with just one. This also shows how low the domestic cricket standards are in Zimbabwe as the national side players were reaping a lot of runs in the domestic 20 competition.
Iam also dissatisfied with the Indian tour cancellation.I hope the officials will find some teams to play against. As bangladesh has got tournaments in June and July, they should look for Kenya and Ireland.Lets hope..thats all wish to do now
This was a much needed win on their day when everything clicks for zim they can be a dangerous team. Its good to see Taylor opening the batting lets hope he continues to open in all forms of cricket because thats his position IMV. Its also good too see young Mazurabani getting into the team and also doing well... he might just become a good pace bowler for zim in the future which is what zim need.
In summary this was a dismal series for Zimbabwe. The batting was mediocre and the bowling ineffective. This tournament showed just how far Zimbabwe cricket has fallen behind.
My All-time Zimbabwe XI
Neil Johnson, Brendan Taylor, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), David Houghton, Sean Williams, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Paul Strang, Eddo Brandes, Blessing Muzarabani

How will we do and what sort of squad will the side be selected from ?
20/20 is so different from any other form of cricket, it will be interesting to see whether the selectors just stick with the present senior squad or go for 'outsiders' such as Strydom amd Mawoyo. One player that did come to my mind was Piet Rinke, a man who showed that, on his day, he could hit the ball very hard and score the quick runs that 20/20 demands.
I am really looking forward to seeing the starting 11 for the Warriors match.
Yeah i think rinke will be very hit and miss, Thing is though if he hits a quick 25-30 even then he's done his job at the top order!! Remember this is not a test match but 20/20
An ideal eleven, from players that may be available would be:
1. V. Sibanda
2. B. Taylor
3. C. Coventry
4. T. Taibu
5. G. Strydom
6. H. Masakadza
7. E. Chigumbura
8. R. Price
9. G. Brent
10. P. Utseya
11. T. Mupariwa
I think Sibanda and Taylor opening is non-negotiable. I mean, how stupid would the management be to remove the openers who defeated Australia and almost repeated it against England? Regardless of how effective Masakadza and Taibu have been, I think Taylor and Sibanda are our most attacking batsmen capable of building a good Twenty20 innings.
After Coventry's triple century in under 60 overs, why wouldn't you want him in the team. Strydom too, and apparently Johnson Marumisa knows where the boundaries are too.
As both of you have said, Piet Rinke is another wildcard, but he really has dropped off the radar. I don't think he's even played in the SAA series.
Edit: I just realised I missed Sean Williams. Not sure if he's suited to Twenty20 or not, but it would probably be between he and Masakadza. I like Masakadza in the Twenty20 team, his run a ball 27 or so against Australia was vital.
I agree with most of the side, but I would play an extra batsman. Especially since Sibanda and Taylor are woefully out of form, and the middle order might get exposed very early in the innings. So I would also play Williams in the side.
I would open with Sibanda and Coventry (if available for selection), so that Coventry can take advantage of field restrictions in first 6 overs. Taylor would still be no.5 in my team, purely because of current form, or the lack of it.
A choice of second seemer is between Brent and Mupariwa, and it would be made based on form and conditions, and the choice of seventh batsman too, Strydom or Matsikenyeri, would be based on form. Williams and Masakadza can handle the 5th bowlers quota. So, here's the team.
