I find it silly but there's a logic to it. The Stanbic is a carnival, with bigger names. This weekly one allows youngsters to get involved with T20 too, in the long run we'll get adaptable young players graduating into the national team. But which competition will be THE one?

Stanbic. It's the one with the TV deal, decent sponsorship, and massive (by Zim standards) crowds - I'd be very surprised if the weekly tourney has anything like the same draw. Like you say, this new one allows younger / local players to get T20 experience, and to my mind it's essentially going to be a T20 'B' league - since the sides are so loaded with imports for the Stanbic, they need this to provide a way to give the locals a shot.

The new season will include more matches and playing days per week as a result of weekly Twenty20 fixtures that will now form part of the core of the calendar.

Hmmm we may have a certain Liam Dawson to thank for that

Yeah, it looks as if they have moved to rectify the situation of having a T20 league in Zimbabwe that hardly any Zim players get to experience, aside from running around in the outfield.
