ZCF Hall of Famer

Opening post

Mashonaland Eagles will be starting the new season with confidence after retaining the services of almost all their regular players of 2011/12, under the direction of Kevin Curran, the coach. In common with most of the other franchises, however, they will not be employing any overseas players due to the currentfinancial constraints.

Stuart Matsikenyeri has been reappointed captain. There are three players in the team who hold central contracts with Zimbabwe Cricket: Elton Chigumbura, Raymond Price and Kyle Jarvis.

The other players who retain their contracts from last year are Forster Mutizwa, Regis Chakabva, Tino Mutombodzi, Sikandar Raza, Tatenda Gumunyu-Manatsa, Nathan Waller, Innocent Chinyoka, Mark Mbofana, Cephas Zhuwao and P J Moor.

They have lost Trevor Garwe, who has moved to Southern Rocks, but have gained Chamu Chibhabha from that team.

Three young players have been awarded rookie contracts: Simba Gupo, Tendai Shereni and Kudakwashe Munyede.

The team’s main strength would again appear to be in its bowling, although they have the makings of a strong batting line-up that lacked consistency last season. They were certainly be looking to find a reliable opening pair. If they play to their potential they will certainly be in the running for winning the Logan Cup.

It's good to see Moor still in the mix

Poor planning. All efforts should have been made to separate Mutizwa and Chakabva with the view of grooming a successor to Taibu's gloves. I really think a draft system (reset every season) ought to be followed so as to evenly spread the talent and hence raise competition would help with country progression.

I have always held out hope that PJ Moor would be our next great opening batsman.

Not in a million years, he's not good enough sadly, just another excellent school cricketer

Important season for him. If he is going to make a significant career for himself, he really needs to be nailing down a spot in the Eagles line-up this season.
