HARARE - Manicaland Mountaineers and national Academy coach Gary Brent, who resigned in December, will now stay on until the end of the current domestic franchise season.

Former Zimbabwe seamer Brent quit Zimbabwe Cricket last month but the intervention of Mountaineers chief executive John Brent, who is his uncle, made him reconsider his decision.

“I did put on my notice before Christmas but the chief executive of the Mountaineers has asked me to reconsider and I’m now pretty keen to see the season through,” Brent told the Daily News yesterday.

“I was probably very emotional before Christmas when I wrote it (the resignation letter) and obviously had time to reflect on that and have seen a bit of sense to continue until the end of the season.”

Brent, who turns 38 on Monday, revealed that he was forced out of ZC due to the current hardships the association is going through.

He has identified private coaching or overseas career opportunities as his likely next port of call.

“Well obviously times are tough, I have got children at school, I need to support them and it’s difficult when you have no income coming in but from what I gather things have been sorted out and I am hoping that is the case,” he said.

“Private coaching is something that I’m looking at then obviously there are a few other options that I might look at such as going overseas and stuff like that. There are lots of opportunities out there but first and foremost being at home is the number one priority.”

The domestic season is scheduled to recommence on January 18, although uncertainty still clouds the resumption due to the on-going player strike.
