Opening post

The first class season has started here in England, and Eddie Byrom has already made his mark by scoring unbeaten 50 and and unbeaten 100 for Somerset vs Cardiff MCCU. Bowling for Cardiff was Brad Evans, also a Zimbabwean. The whole game was streamed live on youtube and is still able to view, if you have spare 8 hours or so.

Nick Welch was batting for Loughborough MCCU vs Liecestershire, and scored 18 and 40 odd. No Malcolm Lake playing for Oxford who got a creditable draw with Middlesex. His studies must have finished. I'm going to watch Oxford on Monday so I'll try and find out what he's now up to.

I’m assuming some of you saw Byrom’s debut T20 innings against Surrey night before last?

Unbelievable. A match winning (Banton did the early damage) 56 off 19 I think it was. Puts to bed once and for all the notion that he’s a red ball player. Every decent player has a few career defining moments and I think this was one of them, they will now take him very seriously in all formats and he’ll get the exposure he deserves.

This Tom Banton lad may well be the best T20 prospect in world cricket at the moment. He didn’t look fantastic against spin, but good luck to the seamers bowling at this guy when he’s seeing it big, he can do stuff that is beyond the reach of mere mortals. That reverse sweep six off Curran was extraordinary, there was a moment’s silence after that, like what did we just see?

I think that was his first ever Twenty20 match. Reminds one of Gary Ballance. Having been written off as a red ball player early, he set off like a house on fire in ListA and Twenty20. I recall his mondblowing hitting during ZIM's own Stanbic T20 too. Some were eventually swayed to chuck him into ENG's ODI side, plus his red ball form was more than decent. Anyway, the rest they say is history.

After an early nick off last game Eddie B blisters Essex with another fantastic innings. These are not just flashes in the pan, he’s making this look really easy.

Makoni and Malema are frothing because the All Blacks suffered under the hand of the colonialists at the rugby yesterday.

Dean was very subtly having a dig at Mukhu at times. But in a diplomatic way. I don’t know if too many people would have picked it up but I can tell Dean is critical of him.

But everyone’s right, if you didn’t follow Zim Cricket, you’d simply get the impression this is a guy doing his hardest who has made a mistake or two. Not a thief who’s incompetent and clinging to power. Amazing. They do the PR game well.

Ed is very confidently spoken for a 22 yr old.

The 15 billion dollar question is why. It’s every third world country. They’re called third world for a reason.

Why would you take something and run it into the ground as fast as you can? You can attempt to dignify it by saying you’re leveling the playing field of years of inequality, but if you take most of it for yourself, friends and family then you’re just a thief.

Other third world countries haven’t had the excuse of racial inequalities and they’re just as bad.

What slays me about our situation is that these politicians have enough money to last a couple of lifetimes of extravagant living yet they plunder faster and faster. It never occurs to any single one of them to fix anything, except about a month before elections.

There is not one thing in Zimbabwe that is not broken almost beyond repair, and that takes a special group of people to achieve that. If there’s ever a next group they will do the same, that’s the tragic part of this.

Money is the problem 😂

First prize would be summer in UK and summer here, but unfortunately that’s not on the cards.

These MF’s have impoverished most of us.

I’ve been trying to get a few things done of late and having to visit various government departments. Everything has pretty much collapsed. Whoever you talk to puts major obstacles in your way that only a backhander can resolve regardless of whether your house is in order or not. It’s so frustrating dealing with everyone. Even if you’re in the upper echelons it’s not easy, the pie is so small now and there are avaricious people watching your every move.

It would be great to have a crystal ball and see just two years into the future.

That’s true.

First world nations are virtually solved in the sense if you think of it, someone’s probably already done it.

The word ‘underdeveloped nation’ isn’t just a PC term for s**t place. There’s development opportunity.

You can also get away with things you can’t in the first world. A bribe can get you places you could only dream of in the west.

You need to be smart, but a different kind of smart. More wily.

ZC and ZANU are like this but they are doing it from a place that screws everyone over.

Me, I could go over and sell guns or something.

The weird and stupid thing about Zimbabwe was they were in a good spot and developing well only a generation ago but kept shooting them selves.

Probably the nicest African country after SA started to decline.

Then they chose to be Uganda and actively killed their money stream.

Chanceless 150 for Byrom debuting for Freemantle just now. These muppets just let the next Andy Flower slip through their fingers. Makes my blood boil.

It’s pretty strong in WA bowling wise especially. I am not sure about Fremantle but I know many clubs don’t pay.

I can find out, don’t know offhand. Usually they provide accommodation and often a coaching role in the club, sometimes a few bucks, sometimes even a light job. I know that on a Zim or SA passport you have to be very careful about working. He’s receiving a decent salary from Somerset so money is no longer a pressing issue. He’s arrived, basically.

Ed’s parents have moved to the UK, his sister lives there as well, practically all his friends have left here and are in the UK as well. He now has no ties here whatsoever.

Our nation has completely imploded.

And back home the government creates more ministerial posts, orders $16m worth of vehicles for everyone and fires 70 doctors for refusing to work for $80 a month.

Slightly overshadowed by the Swazi king who’s just ordered 120 BMW’s and 19 Rolls Royce’s for his family. It does seem a bit excessive when he’s only got 15 wives and 35 kids. Sometimes I think these rulers, and that’s what they are (forget this democratic bullshit) try and outdo each other. ED will order a 120 seater private jet (we no longer have a functional airline) from Dubai to collect him from Harare to fly him a couple of hundred km’s down the road.

What boggles my mind is that all these guys have millions of dirt poor, impoverished, hungry, uneducated and disenfranchised rabid supporters.

I don’t know what the answers are but as a fact democracy does not work in Africa and never will. In the ANC 233 MP’s (50%) have criminal records, and that’s in a country where they control the judiciary. It’s safe to say that 100% of them have committed jailable offenses.

Here in Zim there’s about 7 million people that will be requiring food aid before the next harvest. If we have a poor season I shudder to think what’s going to happen.

That’s more than half the rural population, who incidentally, continually vote for this government regardless of the hardships they endure. They get convinced every single time that the problems have been deliberately created by white enemies of the State. They fall for it every single time, and those that sit on the fence get their minds changed manually 😂

My friends who were ousted off their farm in Chinhoyi last week had to watch their animals endure the most horrific cruelties. What kind of person tortures a pig, a dog or a horse because it belongs to a guy whom they’ve been paid $5 to torment? I guess they’ve decided the animals are guilty by association. These people that perpetrate these acts get nothing from it but the daily rate, which they themselves can’t survive off. I’ve lived here my whole life and am no closer to understanding it.

Zimbabwe is dead

Sometimes I think ZANU wants the poor to die off.

Well, if the poor die off then there'd be no one left to vote for them. The mystery is why the worst off of the lot continue to vote for the same government.

Simple, they only think about themselves. If they see themselves and their mates living a good life, they do not care about anyone else.

As for your move conundrum, i completely understand the money aspect. Have you thought about other options like sponsorship or something like that? Perhaps you can con one of the clubs in to a Kolpak deal...

I say that because you are clearly better than them, and have a brain. You could benefit another country's system

The interesting thing about 3rd world countries is that in unequal environments there is opportunity to make millions for delivering basic services effeciently. There is so much to be done. Its hard for me to explain clearly but I can tell you there is a tonne of money to be made in Africa and it deosnt come from you getting a job. You just cant come from a position where you have nothing. You need a start and a lot of patience. Everything that needs to be done in a first world country has basically been done already

I know quite a few people who lived in the first world for maybe 7 years then just took a basic first world idea and made millions off it in a 3rd world country. Broadband is an example. The first zimbabwean rolls royce I saw besides the vintage 1 sam levy had was a Zimbabwean who supplied ATMs in Nigeria
