Zim to camp at Streak farm

HARARE - Zimbabwe's cricketers leave Sunday for a three-day team bonding camp in Matabeleland ahead of next month’s ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.

Bowling coach Heath Streak will host the traveling party at his family farm in Esgodini, near the country’s second largest city. The farm also has a cricket ground.

The team will also utilise the flat wicket conditions offered by Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club, which is somewhat similar to what they should expect in the subcontinent.

Head coach Alan Butcher said the camp will provide his team with a perfect opportunity to fine tune in a serene environment.

“Heath Streak he has given us an opportunity for a get together and work on a few things as a team, which is not really easy to do here in Harare,” Butcher told the Daily News yesterday.

“We are going to play a few matches at Queens Sports Club during our camping there; we felt that perhaps the change of environment could also help us in our preparations while playing on a flat wicket that is almost similar to the wickets in Sri Lanka. Hopefully it will do us good.”

Yesterday, the players went through their match practice session amongst themselves, their routine for the past five weeks.

Captain Brendan Taylor was also at practise yesterday following his arrival from Sri Lanka on Tuesday, where he played in that country’s domestic T20 competition for local side Uthura Rudras.
