Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has named a 30-member provisional national Under-19 cricket team for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia in August.

The 30-member squad, which was submitted to the ICC as per tournament regulations, will be trimmed to a 15-member final squad in July.

In a statement, ZC head of media and communications Shingai Rhuhwaya said: “A provisional Zimbabwe U-19 squad of 30 has been submitted to the International Cricket Council in preparation for the ICC U-19 World Cup which will be played in Sydney, Australia, from the 4th to the 21st of August this year. The final 15 will be selected on the 15th of July before the team departs for Australia.”

The team is coached by former Black Caps all-rounder Chris Harris, who is being assisted by former national team coach Walter Chawaguta.

The team has been preparing for the world showpiece by playing practice matches against the visiting Dubai Academy.

The most experienced player in the team is promising Mountaineers’ wicketkeeper batsman Kevin Kasuza, who has had more exposure on the domestic franchise system.

Kasuza is also part of the senior national team’s training squad which is in camp ahead of next week’s Twenty20 tri-series which will also feature Bangladesh and South Africa.

Spinner, Wellington Masakadza, who is following in the footsteps of his older brothers Hamilton and Shingirai, is also part of the provisional squad.

Zimbabwe were drawn in Group C with former champions India, minnows Papua New Guinea and West Indies for the tournament which will take place in Brisbane, Townsville, and the Sunshine Coast in Australia from August 11-26.

The team will play warm-up matches against England and Namibia on August 7 and 8 ahead of the first match against Papua New Guinea at the Endeavour Park in, Townsville, Australia, on August 11.
