Sean Williams and Regis Chakabva retire from international c

Zimbabwe batting duo Sean Williams and Regis Chakabva have duly followed team-mate Brendan Taylor into retirement from international cricket after the two returned home following the nations lukewarm success in the nations world cup campaign which came to a grinding halt last month.

While Taylor, who announced his international retirement when the team concluded their match against Ireland, has kept open the possibility of returning in Zimbabwean colours at the conclusion of his county contract, Regis and Sean have both stated today their intention to retire completely from all forms of cricket.

"It's been an honour and privilege to play cricket for my country over the past 10 years and I will miss it greatly," the 28-year-old said in a Zimbabwe Cricket statement earlier this morning.

"However, the time is right for me to step away from playing this great game and devote more time to my family, who have sacrificed so much for me to keep playing the game I love." Regis on the other hand, was unavailable for comment.

A wily middle order batsman, Williams made his international debut in a one-day match in 2005 before making his Test debut 8 years later.

Chakabva debuted against NZ in 2011 and instantly impressed critics and sceptics alike with a feisty half century against an attack that included genuine stars including Kyle Mills and Tim Southee. However, he became a limited-overs specialist and played in the recently completed world cup, with the highlight being almost singlehandedly saving the match against Ireland with the bat in hand.

It is believed he is to take up a coaching role at St. Johns college.

"It's sometimes forgotten that over the course of their respective careers Sean and Regis have consistently been ranked in the top 5 batsman on the domestic scene and for a long time Regis even held the top spot," National coach Dav Whatmore added.

"To have the longevity that these two have endured takes an incredible work ethic and desire to represent your country.

"On top of what they achieved on the field, they are both also fantastic people and great team men.
