But standout performer, let alone captain? Not a chance, his 1 century and 1 fifty don't quite match up to Taylor's 2 centuries and 2 fifties in the same time span.

i seem to be struggling to make myself understood ... Taylor being sacked removed him from the discussion o9f who should be the next captain!!

but just for the sake of it then ... 45 vs 52 average where one opens and the other is middle order (+ against the two top 8 nations he fars slightly less well) - but the first paragraph is more pertinent anyway
If Taylor does get sacked then its got to be Vusi to take his place, that would be the logical solution as he has a bit of experience behind him and the players I think respect him. As for Hhm comment about the the next test captain having to be black, you must be on drugs to post a statement like dat. If you were a Zim cricket fan you would want what's best for cricket Zimbabwe than worry about race or colour,c'mon man!!!

well read through all this and have to say a lot of pur fans here dont have an idea of what ZC is capable of, and are generally oprimistic in a naive sort of way *sorry guys*. hhm is on the money here Taylor was just a pawn. Even Gilispie was not convinced he was capable of captaining Rhinos. Cosmetic move that was to make Taylor captain and pity he fell for it and was used thats why he has no say in the issue. Now for that to have been said on the record for a journo means there is some serious bad blood. But get this guys if anyone remembers the trade offs, well the saga continues, there is a trade off happening right here, let us not be surprised GF being the coach. But the trade is that for you to be coaxh the captain has to be black. And GF is quite happy to sacrifice Taylor the pawn.

As for the captaincy well Ham wont get it cos hes Ham and educated and stands his ground, beside he seems reluctant cos he is weary and probably doesnt need the hassle. Vusi will probably make it tnis time but the most obvious choice is Mawoyo, the outright leader of all these peeps. Noone here has actually mentioned leadership qualities. Taylor is not a leader guys let us not fool ourselves. He should just concentrate on batting only. the whole issue with Mawoyo not proving himself he captained Vusi in the Zim A, captains Ham in the mountaineers, yet Taylor had no captaincy before that so...

So we should be talking politics, not cricket? My mistake then.

Is anyone surprised that ZC still has racial quotas. Notice that no more than a certain number of white players are ever selected?

Jemisi, i wish it was just about tne cricket. Maybenaive was a bit of a harsh word to use. The right one may be uninformed, offfeild events affect our players onfield performances so in discussing cricket we cannot ignore the politics creating a context. Sometimes as fans we are only interested in the performances of the players and chop them in and out of XIs without considering some of the facts surrounding. But i also realise that peeps only stick to the cricketing issues because that is all their are aware of and qualified to comment on.

eugene the quotas still exist currently there have to be 5 white players in the team.

Naïve is about right actually. As you say off field events affect a lot, and it's not just politics, sometimes it's business.

Dhoni should've been sacked as captain, but from where I'm standing, despite his rot as captain(and average batsman), his "poster boy" image or pull means until maybe Kohli rises to that status, he can stay.

Unlike poor Graham Onions(the long serving England substitute), Tsotsobe got dropped from the Test squad with SA touring a seamer haven with the high likelihood that four seamers may be played at some point, plus injury/fatigue a possibility. He hadn't even played a single Test while he was in reserve(having last played one close to 2 years ago), and in that time he reached the pinnacle of limited overs bowling while waiting patiently. Lopsy was going to be tight and pick up wickets no doubt. Were Graeme and his thugs willing to take that chance? No! So they picked Rory, and to avoid questions of why not Mbhalati instead if it's to do with Tsotsobe's bowling form? They decided to give a flimsy reason like 'Rory hits the deck harder, Aus pitches will suit him better plus he shortens the tail'. Who can question what Ntini said? Surely if it was Kuhn, Vilas, Morne van Wyk instead of Thami, they would have kept ahead of AB, but Graeme would have none of it. Anyway, those poor Aussies let the b******* get away with. Questions were being readied!

Elsewhere, someone mentioned Ncube and questioned if he was there on merit. I think it was you again Jemisi. Of course he was there on merit, didn't you see his figures or record at the time!? Unlike Vitori who was snatched from nowhere based on Gillespie's dizzy head! But the point is, bot these guys have something in common - Vitori from Masvingo - not many being pushed from there, while Ncube is from Bulawayo, Black and Ndebele. But they both performed admirably initially. Once again certain decisions beyond just one's perfect little world have to be made. You must just trust them, and in the case of these two sometimes appreciate that marginalised sections are allowed to filter through.

Things are worse here in SA my friend, to the point that HM the Boks coach would rather play Hougaard a scrumhalf, at left wing instead - against his will, instead of Lwazi Mvovo. In fact, Mvovo should have gone to the WC and started ahead of Habana, but we all know what happened, they picked Ndungane who we all know is useless compared to the then very poor Habana. Once again, like Rory instead of Tsotsobe, they didn't want to allow Mvovo that grand platform to announce himself.

If you havn't noticed, there are plenty of mafiosos out there, the likes of ZC board members, Bvute etc pale in comparison! Like I've said before the only difference is they've got more money, more organised fronts, and they win while they're at it.

Mdara Hami for Captain!

I wasn't being sarcastic, or too naive ( i dont think).

It is just that really we can only make cricketing calls from this distance. That is where my comments come from, opinons about that. If the conversation moves to fitting into political deals, which are not public information, then I am out of my depth.

The quotas is actually that there can't be more than 5 white players in the side, there are often ever only four selected. Plus, notice how a white player almost always replaces a white player and a black player almost always replaces a black player?

Not saying that there are no quotas in place, but I seem to recall as many as 7 white guys playing in that tri-nations series with SL and India in 2010.

There was, Taylor, Lamb, Ervine, Coventry, Price, Cremer, Blignaut with Utseya, Ham, Elton and Taibu as the only black players.
Thami should be playing. He's earned his place through hard work. Yes de c**k is the future but for now Thami should be playing.
Btw, why are we even talking about Saffers in a Zim forum?

@Hhm, so your answer to my genuine question seemed to consist of, "Everybody does it", and some veiled reference to your superior intellect.

Here is an idea. Go to the Board index, go to the Other Cricket forum, select a new thread, call it "Rant against rascism in SA" or "SA cricket mafia", then write as many essays as you want. Everyone will know what they are looking at when they click on that thread.

There is a considerable differential between one line tangents that people often throw in and your habits.

Indeed. I haven't been about too much lately to keep an eye on this, but any further diversions off-topic will simply be deleted.
