Opening post

Great bloke & terrific spinner! I loved his celebrations with Mpofu, whenever either of them got a wicket. Sad times with Taibu & Price leaving cricket. :(

fuckin no wonder no one wants to make a career out of ZC,

With job recognition like this.

To those who said Brent had the glorious exit- Remember he did leave the game for a few years so doesn't quite qualify.

has anyone got any insight with Prices' relations with other players?

Think there has been accusations of Price playing for himself rather than the team that have been made in the past by a couple of the senior players, it got so bad in fact that in Bangladesh in 2009 he was fined for his lack of team play.

Ironic as to the outside world this is not how he comes across.

That is unbelievable! Can't comment further as I have no first hand idea about this...

But here is a beautiful article by Firdose Moonda about the Joker, Competitor and "Team Man" Ray Price: http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/co ... 56323.html

Specially liked this incident involving Guy Whittall, narrated by Price. Hilarious :) :

As far as he could, he always tried to have a laugh, be it at their expense or with them, which is why Price is the best source of great stories. One of his favourites, and one that I never tire of hearing was about Guy Whittall.

Lauded as absent-minded genius of sorts, Whittall often came up with pearlers on the field that did not make sense to anyone but himself. In a Test against Pakistan, one of the opposition batsmen was leaving the ball elaborately, by taking a great stride forward, planting his front food ahead of him and, once he was sure it was safely past, putting one hand on his hip. After doing this repeatedly, Whittall decided to throw in a sledge.

"Who do you think you are?" he asked the batsman. "Christopher Columbus?" Whittall looked around at his team-mates for some encouragement but he was only met with bemused expressions. Nobody knew what he was on about and Price decided to find out.

He asked Whittal to clarify exactly who was trying to compare the batsman with. "You know, Christopher Columbus, the guy whose statue is at Victoria Falls, with one foot pointed out and his hand on his hip," Whittall clarified. Price understood. "No, you mean David Livingstone, that's who is at the Falls," he told Whittal, before explaining the insult to his team-mates.

Guy was running along the beach in the West Indies with the team. He pulled up, out of breath and asked what altitude they were at!!!

This is a true story. I have several of him, he was often confused.

For sure he hasn't played coz of an argument with the guys previously mentioned. Most staff and players were dead keen for him to have a last game. So unfair.

Firdose is a good writer, but she wouldnt get the real deal on who Price. That would come from the players who play with him. And I asked this question in the context of him being captain. This is why he could not become a captain of that team because of his relationship with the players.

If politics wasnt sooo deep ingrained he would have played eg KP in Eng, cant keep a player that good out cos of personality differences, or Shane Warne hitting on other players wives. But this is ZC.

I dont know what it will take for some of these retired players to write a book!!!!
