Brendan Taylor will be leaving for the West Indies this afternoon and will join the rest of the team as captain. He missed passing the fitness test by a very small margin. After consulting with Taylor and the fitness trainer and after reviewing his medical report, the board has decided to allow Taylor to proceed to the West Indies to join the rest of the squad.

The board has taken into consideration his illness and the fact that he had returned to Zimbabwe on a long haul flight prior to that.

The fitness trainer has set out a stringent program for him which he will carry out in the West Indies under the guidance of the team physiotherapist.

Well there you have your trade offs at play. ZC really should have just said he passed the test and saved us this rubbish. So nothing has changed guys forget about about that commission being of any substance it will just be window dressing.

Who cares about a dumb fitness test, I doubt Inzamam passed one in his life. Taylor is our best player and needs to be playing.

Do we even know what the purpose of these fitness tests are?

Is it a case of a supposed minimum standard before you become eligible for slection? Or is it a case of identifying areas of weakness that need to be worked on, but not impacting on your availability?

😂 You do know that I would never leave Taylor out of my XI!

He missed by a small margin(like bayhaus said, it's pointless to reveal that - just say he's fit enough).

Like guys have said he was just playing T20 in BPL - keeping, batting, keeping his mind awake to filed changes in a fast paced game! He couldn't have been that unfit physically.

Only the effects of the virus would have been crucial, and if he failed on that basis then he shouldn't have gone. we've all been down with a virus, so teammates would have seen that there's no way Taylor's fit enough to play international cricket so he should have been excluded as would've been done to them in that case.

I won't hide my desire for him to be sacked as captain. That has to happen! As far as I'm concerned, it's imminent! There'll be plenty of decisions to be made, and I can't see him remaining neutral when Makoni overrules Butcher!

Deciding between Utseya/Mutombodzi/Mushangwe won't be a factor, but the following will put him on a collision course

Tests: Price/Cremer-Utseya & Williams/Waller-Maruma

Tests&ODIs: Meth/Jarvis-Chatara/Mpofu

ODIs: Craig/Waller-Chibhabha/Chakabva/Mawoyo

Plus what position in the order Maruma wil bat in comparison to Waller & Williams.

We stand a great chance of doing well on this tour, and I now believe we will, but the paradoxically poor harmony of the team due to some of these decisions, will contribute towards the hastening of his axing. I think he long lost the dressing room, and his recent statement about the coaches(which was contrary to Elton, and possibly Hami&Utseya as well) proves he speaks for the minority.

Did Makoni go on tour? Does he have any say beyond naming the original 16? Genuine question, because I know that in a lot of cases it is simply the coach and captain who pick the side once a tour has actually started.

So when you put those zzzzzzzzzz characters, you're actually projecting your state of mind! 😂

Remember Makoni insisting on Utseya ahead of Price, or Matsi ahead of Waller? Ignored all those journalist reports? :? Wake up...

Only Butcher and Makoni have discussions, and Makoni(or the travelling selector) has the final say. taylor(and I presume Mangongo) only participate on invitation.

I do remember those reports.

I was under the impression that they were reporting incidents that had taken place in the past, rather than the future.

Therefore. My question again. Is Makoni on this tour? (Ie, the current one to the WI, not the 2011 world cup)

You're still sleeping. ZC stood by Makoni as its Convenor going forward.

The team cannot tour/host minus the selector on duty! He's definitely part of the tour. If it was Wayne James, then that would've made front page news by the first week of Feb!

If they've got a phone and DSTV, and don't prefer to walk their dogs in the beach when the boys are in action, then they don't have to travel! 😂

With makoni getting the final say i can forsee some random selections like maruma opening the batting :D

Obviously Makoni is still the convenor...

Most countries don't take their convenor/chairman of selectors on tour. Clearly Zimbabwe have in the past. I wonder if that is still the case...
