To put some steel and belief into a side that was an embarrassement to franchise cricket last season. That the Rocks have the poorest squad by far is not Houghtons fault, that they have competed more often than not this season while actually winning matches in the Logan Cup is something he deserves credit for. Nobody of us knows what his input is in terms of techical stuff, but Mutumbami's progress might be attributed at least in a small way to DH's influence.

Davey was a keeper/batsman himself in his youth.

What I meant was that the coach is almost irrelevant to the fact that Rocks batting line-up is sufficiently dismal to warrant Garwe being given a go up top. Not that the role of coach is irrelevant in general...
