Opening post

It’s actually not that easy 😂 😂

Blessing, Raza and Richie pick themselves, every other place is fair game and not enough room for everyone.

Marumani will probably open. There’s the other opener up for grabs.

Bats 3,4 and 6 are up for grabs with about 10 guys vying for a place. Now that is a tough call. Common sense says Ervine, Williams and one other, but who? 😂 this is the one area there is genuine competition and some deserving guys will be overlooked.

Two keepers vying for a place, where would you bat gumbie though? 7 or open?

Spinner? Do we even need one? Could we get away with an extra batter who bowls a bit?

Third seamer? They’re all equally impotent, Faraz can bat a bit though.
Legend
K long can play all of the 20/20 matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan same with musekiwa

Gumbie should only be looked at for the tests and ODI.

Ervine and Williams won't play the 20/20 so they could also give Munyonga a go in this format.

I don't think they should pick completely alternative squads but they should pick guys like K long musekiwa for the shorter formats and give them a long rope in the 20/20 matches.
Legend
The fact that Pakistan Afghanistan series is multi format gives selectors a chance to pick players who are suitable for the big hitting and consolidation factor.

Do we have a squad list for those going to rwanda tomorrow?
ZCF Hall of Famer
It would be a good plan to send U19's.

Plus at least one guy they want to fast track into the national side for a fifer against Rwanda C, or a 20

From that squad i know Lennox Chando, Ronak Patel, Tashinga Makoni, Panashe Taruvinga, Chirwa, Nyamhuri, Anesu Kamuriwo, Ryan Simbi, Kamwemba

The only guys who seem to be getting starts in franchise are Makoni and Nyamhuri. I'm surprised they're not staying here to play, it will be a much higher standard of cricket.

It seems the franchise is too strong this year for Patel, Kamwemba, Chirwa and Taruvinga

There will be opportunity for some guys when the Zim squad is playing or in camp obviously.

With Mukhulani now the boss of African cricket we're helping African teams improve, it's not going to do a lot for our cricket. We're helping them close the gap on us when we need to be closing the gap on SA. If we want to improve we need to be playing South African sides. It would be great if he focused on our ailing cricket and crooked selectors.

If you'd told me 2 years ago we'd soon be playing Uganda, Mozambique and Rwanda I'd have laughed, perhaps a little uneasily, but laughed nonetheless.

Would ZC rather we smash Rwanda or play and probably lose to an SA emerging side or an EFF XI?

I guess a couple of wins helps with admin morale. A win is a win.

The possibility exists that we may lose to Rwanda or Uganda of course, but then we could challenge Malawi, Chad and Congo Brazzaville.

I see Langton is umpiring the Sri Lankan game. Aside from Raza, he's the only guy (apart from coaches and admin) who's making a living from cricket in Zimbabwe.

Who'd have thought that umpiring would have been a better career option from the get go.

There's been a lot going on in social media about these regionals and selections.

This was an interesting reply from Tarisai Chaminuka to Danielsson's post about Blessing being our most reliable seamer-

Even when virtue signaling about black players we have a disclaimer. Then Rhodie's wonder why no single black player rebels against ZC.Its a rock and a hard place kind of situation.Poor treatment from ZC or someone who thinks you should not even be there.

I had a double take, well written, but wrong nonetheless, and damned annoying and worthy of a response.

Was the implication that black players didn't support the coup because they thought ZC were the lesser of the two evils? Maybe I read too much into that.

So a white guy can't say a black guy is a good player because he's virtue signaling and branded a Rhodie?

I'm assuming a Rhodie is a guy who hankers about the past AND thinks the whites don't want the blacks to have equal opportunity.

What would he call a Zimbabwean that clearly thinks whites shouldn't be given equal opportunity in any aspect of society, let alone cricket? A Zimby?

As a community, albeit now a tiny one, we've kept our heads above water only just, and we lose ground every day, but we're hanging in...just. It must be vexing that we seem to do well against all odds.

We've been discriminated against for decades. The fundamental difference is we used to create wealth and not take. Now we just survive.

You could of course rebel against poor treatment by ZC all by yourselves, you don't need the whites to help you. You wouldn't know where to start because they're miles ahead of you.

Despite years of indoctrination to the contrary the whites just want equal opportunity, those that can afford it now buy it, but the rest of us want it to be merit based and it's a pipe dream.

What we're waiting for is for you to build something we can all be proud of, instead of taking, and in most instances messing it up. C'mon lads it's time to stop blaming as a smokescreen and to start building, it's been 40 years. Let us put one hand on the steering wheel, we know how to get things done and we only steal small amounts.

Nope, this is the younger Makoni. Been nowhere near a franchise squad, quite rightly. He’s turned 21 but as recently as a few months ago was still somehow playing schools cricket (and doing poorly). Less than half as talented as Tanunurwa.

Sound guy by all accounts. Doesn’t mind equal opportunities when it comes to the scores of shona women on his WhatsApp dotted around Salisbury. Favourably rates old smiff dawg, perturbed he sacked off Queen Elizabeth though, Westminster was enough 😂

Knows blacks like Wes getting 6 billion chances whilst blacks like Munyonga get 20 chances is exactly what old smiff dawg was alluding to when he said there wouldn’t be black majority rule in 1000 years.
