True. You have two fine examples there in your signature XI with Johnson and Goodwin.

So there is hoping. When the game dies in Zimbabwe, as googly predicts, we might see a complete SA/Aus/UK XI with Zimbo roots some day. It will be enough if they fly over some parts of Zim on their route from Jo'burg to the 2030 Global FiveFive Extravaganza in Shanghai or the 2042 Universal OneOver Bash in the Moscow Cricket Superdome.

They indeed have a history of producing their own players. If you compare the Dutch side at the 1996 WC with today's lot you get my meaning. I think they've just gone over the top with this recently (as much as England have, for different reasons).

A Nannes, Tendo, or Cooper doing well for an Associate against full members simply does not set my pulse racing like a Kevin O'Brien, a Paras Khadka or a Mohammed Nabi.

wouldn't compare them to Johnson and Goodwin. Johnson and Goodwin are Zimbabweans who migrated at a young age (13 for Goodwin and 10 for Johnson ). there weren't mercenaries à la Petersen . Flower was born to Zimbabwean parents who just happened to be staying in SA at the time (grant was born 2 years later in Zim)

Yeah I don't mind guys like Johnson and Goodwin who actually have Zimbabwean blood running through them I was thinking more like guys like Myburgh, Barressi, Andre Botha, etc Saffers who are looking to play international cricket and can't get a start back home. If they're willing to play a few ODI's or t20's every few years surely they'd be interested in playing test cricket ( if we had some solidarity ) ......

Yes, maybe so. I posted a couple of years ago a short history about the Graeme Hick influence(from my perspective) & Zimbabwe being the ICC's b*****d child. In fact, more than Bradman's influence to Australia, I feel Hick & subsequent decisions made in the 1980s have shaped Zimbawe to what it is now. I would love to hear John Ward's opinion regarding this. I say this as Mr Ward is someone I respect & was someone who contributed to the early cricinfo site & provided far greater insight & news about local competitions than any other country.

I don't know about Zim being flooded with SA influence (after all, finance is still a factor & I do believe Johnson & Goodwin waited till after playing at Lords before giving tests a punt). But if Ireland get test status, potato eaters from around the world will flock there eg, Trent Johnston, Jeremy Bray random Ervines/Wallers
