I think it was a case of holding back Mutizwa for dire situations if Maruma also had fallen. They just wanted to smoke a few runs quickly so that they get closer to the finish line and don't give a sniff to the rocks with runs to make.

So, I can enjoy the "double double" then. Mawoyo / Hamilton led Mountaineers + Vinay Kumar led Karnataka. Two exceptionally well managed teams this season in domestic cricket.

It would indeed be very interesting to see these two square off. Karnataka has a slew of highly talented young batsmen and a great 3 pronged pace attack - Vinay, Mithun and the new find Sharath. Mountaineers would give a run for their money with the ball with Chats, Shingi, Tiripano and Mupunga. Karnataka's exciting leggie Shreyas Gopal is less experienced but more attacking than Mushangwe. Batting is where Mountaineers would struggle. But Hami is the best, and most experienced batsman across both the teams.

By the way, every run Maruma scored this season for us must be measured in gold. Every single time we were under pressure, he has delivered. Hats off.

Congrats to the Mountaineers easily the best team this season. I know there were lots of rumours about Gary Brent quiting due to the finanical problems but lets hope this is not the case, he has formed a very tight unit over the last couple of years.

Biggest frustration this year has been the lack of big scores in the pro 50 comp, average score has been around 180 which is conerning.

Absolutely.

Things have gone rather smoothly. Credit to everyone involved.

Let's not forget Mountaineers managed to get Pettini and Housego in for a few matches. That was crucial when half the side went to the T20 WC.

The final drive by Maruma and Natsai Mshangwa also got the crowd worked up with a 59-run that sealed their 178-run victory.

Mountaineers coach Gary Brent said it was a well-deserved victory.


Nice to know there was crowd to witness this.


“It has been a fantastic season and a huge achievement for the franchise.

“Even without senior players when they went for the World Cup, the remaining team held fort, so it is a well-deserved victory and we look forward to the next season,” said Brent.


So, does that mean Brent is continuing on? That would be awesome :)


Zimbabwe Cricket managing director, Wilfred Mukondiwa, appreciated the strides Zimbabwe cricket is making and urged local supporters to keep roaring behind the domestic franchise cricket teams.
