News in today from the ECB: "Two bowlers have been suspended from bowling, having been subject to the ECB process for bowlers with suspected illegal bowling actions. Hampshire’s Glenn Querl and Gloucestershire’s Jack Taylor have both been reported on two separate occasions within a 12-month period and have undergone independent analysis.

In both cases no previous evidence was available and hence their bowling actions were subject to the independent analysis process set out in the ECB regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions. This analysis took place on Monday 20th May 2013. The report of the independent analysis was received by ECB on Tuesday 28th May 2013.

The reports identified that the bowling actions of each player displayed elbow extension in excess of the permitted 15 degrees during analysis. This analysis follows the same procedures used by ICC in such circumstances.

Consequently and in accordance with the regulations, both Querl and Taylor are suspended from bowling for England and in competitive county cricket until such time as they have submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that they have remedied their actions. The suspension is with immediate effect."

Shame for both, they were doing well this year. Querl was named in a Hampshire 12 at one point for a one-day game I think.

Well, that's the death knell. This surely maligns the Tuskers juggernaut over the Logan Cup in the previous seasons. They could have probably won it without him, but his action in those games brings a bit of bitterness there.

I feel sorry for Querl to a certain extent. But this was inevitable thats why he wasnt really considered for Zim nor was their a push to convince him to play cos it would have been ZCs baby to get the tests done so they decided, probably by Streaks advice not to pursue him.
Sad for Querl. But perhaps for the best for us. Good that we did not pursue him. We have already got a healthy young pace-bowling battery.

Can he still correct it? How long would that take and would he still be as effective?

He may need to move to Rocks and play as a batsman while he tries to change his action. But he may not be able to get anything decent out of that arm.

lets hope he fixes it and returns plenty of players have had to refine their actions, so hopefully Glen can ....... Then return and play for Zimbabwe lol

It has happened. James Kirtley, Johan Botha, Shane Shillingford and Sunil Narine are all examples of players who have had to take some time out to correct their action and then returned to play international cricket.

Glenn Querl has been backed by his coach at the Unicorns to come back stronger following his suspension for a suspect bowling action.

The Zimbabwe-born seamer, 25, was on Tuesday barred from bowling by the England and Wales Cricket Board along with Gloucestershire's Jack Taylor following analysis of their actions. Querl has played second XI cricket for Hampshire as well as making three appearances in this season's Yorkshire Bank 40 for the ECB-run Unicorns side, made up of second XI players and free agents.

And Unicorns team manager Phil Oliver told Press Association Sport: "This is a stumbling block but it can be overcome with a bit of hard work from everybody. We want to help him as much as we can and help him overcome this little hurdle in his career."

He added: "Unicorns will give him all the backing the lad needs, without any question. He's got a fantastic attitude and we'll help him as much as possible.

"He's down at Hampshire at the moment with Giles (White, team manager) and we've got Unicorns A cricket today (Wednesday) and Friday, so he's coming to have a long chat with me on Friday.

"I think the lad just wants 24 hours to sit down and think and reflect on what's gone on. He's okay, he's a positive lad anyway and he's a good cricketer. He's just wanting to get on in the game and play first-class cricket."

Querl and Taylor both underwent ECB testing last Monday after being reported twice inside a 12-month period for suspect delivery actions.

An ECB statement read: ''The reports identified that the bowling actions of each player displayed elbow extension in excess of the permitted 15 degrees during analysis. This analysis follows the same procedures used by (the International Cricket Council) in such circumstances.

''Consequently and in accordance with the regulations, both Querl and Taylor are suspended from bowling for England and in competitive county cricket until such time as they have submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that they have remedied their actions. The suspension is with immediate effect.''


They see it as an investment worth making. I'm doubtful of his return to Zim for this year's Logan Cup.

That's a statement straight of the ICC Generic Press Statement Manual Edition 13. I wouldn't read much into it. Every team would issue a statement like that after such an incident.

What like he is shocked and traumatised and didnt see this coming? Please, players once refused to walk onto the pitch sighting that he was throwing. It was just a matter of time before he was called. I am sure a few hecklers from the opposition have shouted from the stands and then there is of course the sledging...

They are now stuck with him cos he was caught while playing for them. They will have to fund the tests. If he had shown interest in playing for Zim then we wouldjust replace the Unidorns name with ZC and nothing else would change in the article. I also don't see him coming back to the Logan cup especially if he is cleared. Which he will be.

I suggested on twitter that maybe bowlers should be allowed to throw at least one delivery in an over. Heck batsmen getaway with the equivalent of throwing with some of the shots they play!

Some idea! :D

But seriously, the 15 degrees limit has gone a long way to redress the shifting in the balance between bat and ball (heavy bats, mishits and edges flying for six).

Yeah, we have already legalised chucking with the Murali law. We just have a limit on it.

I know two promising youngsters that definitely chuck at schoolboy level. No-one is prepared to call them. The one kid is pretty quick, but get him to bowl with a straight arm and he's pedestrian. I listened in bemusement to a heated debate between three respected coaches about it. Two of the three were adamant that u could not call it without proper proof. The argument was "how do u know it's not 14 degrees and we don't have the facilities to test it properly here."

The fact is that a selector would be dumb to pick them for a representative side and run the risk of them being called.

yep, at junior level the old laws need to be followed, otherwise kids can get killed
